Up until very recently indeed, airlines were the only businesses that I dealt with regularly that practiced "price discrimination," charging different customers different prices for the same seats.
A 1970s Air Canada ad depicting a man in a brown velour pullover with a large collar sitting in a book-lined study, assembling model Air Canada jets on his desk. His head has been replaced with the blue, metallic head of a 1950s pulp robot and his skintones have been shifted blue to match.

Look at the comment pages of a quality paper from the 1980s. Literally one comment page - often with the editorial and church notices and cartoon taking up half of it. And political columnists and editorial writers - Peter Jenkins, Alan Watkins, Bill Deedes etc - were few and had weight.

Holy shit, this guy is so cool. He won the only major city mayoral race in France that *didn’t* need a second round of voting (meaning he had 50%+ of support in their version of a primary). A major part of his platform was disarming the police.
