80 years ago today, the first verdicts were delivered in the Nuremberg trials. Among the twelve subsequent trials was the Doctors’ Trial. One of the witnesses was Dr František Bláha who, as a prisoner, was compelled to carry out post-mortem examinations on corpses in Dachau concentration camp.

The mass shootings in the Babyn Yar ravine began 85 years ago. Backed by the Wehrmacht, members of the SS and the police murdered over 33,000 Jews within two days. The Nazis killed about 100,000 people there in total. The victims also included Sinti and Roma, Soviet POW, and alleged partisans. #otd

One wedding dress – 18 weddings! Lili and Ludwig got married in Celle, Germany, in 1946. Afterwards, Lili lent her dress to more than 17 other brides at the Bergen-Belsen DP camp. Mala Tribich survived the Holocaust as a child. Two years after the war ended, she was reunited with her brother Ben in Great Britain. They were the only members of their family to survive. Mala has been active as a witness to the Holocaust since the 1980s. We wish her a very happy 96th birthday!

We are deeply saddened by the death of Yehuda Aharon Vidovsky. The oldest Holocaust survivor living in Israel passed away last Sunday aged 107. Born in Turek in Poland in 1919, Yehuda Aharon Vidovsky survived Łódź & Auschwitz. The National Socialists murdered his parents and almost all his siblings.

We are looking for relatives of Oleksandra Horila (born in 1924 in Shabalyniv, Ukraine). The Nazis deported her as a forced laborer. The Arolsen Archives hold several pieces of jewelry that were among the possessions confiscated from her.

83 years ago, the National Socialists shot the Berlin resistance fighter Ella Trebe in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. She was a member of the KPD and engaged in one of the resistance groups, which the Gestapo called "Rote Kapelle” (Red Orchestra).

On July 15, 1941, the Nazis murdered lawyer Martin Gauger at the Pirna-Sonnenstein killing center. In 1934, he had refused the oath of allegiance required of all civil servants, which meant swearing loyalty to Adolf Hitler. Later, he had refused military service. Martin was born 121 years ago today.

82 years after the beginning of the Warsaw Uprising, we are looking for the relatives of Józef Więtczak. Born on 12.03.1912, he was deported by the Nazis to the Stutthof concentration camp in August 1944 and shortly thereafter to the Neuengamme concentration camp where his trace is lost.

In 1920, Alfred Mottard, a Belgian cyclist, competed in the Tour de France. But he crashed on the first stage and had to withdraw from the race early. After Germany’s occupation of Belgium, the Nazis arrested Alfred and deported him to Buchenwald. They murdered him in Mittelbau-Dora on 24.01.1945.

The Nazis persecuted many of their political opponents. Oskar Müller was one of them. He was imprisoned by the Nazis for over five years. He survived and was elected to the German Bundestag in 1949. Today marks the 130th anniversary of his birth.

If the attempt to take Adolf Hitler’s life on July 20, 1944 had been successful, Dr Fritz Elsas would have become head of the Reich Chancellery. But the attempt failed. The Nazis arrested, interrogated, and tortured Fritz.
