West Bromwich, like Wolverhanpton, was in Staffordshire until 1974. Indeed the 'Black Country' Derby was called the 'South Staffordshire' Derby in the Wolves' programme as late as 1981. Its this kind of infantile BS that does nothing to dampen down the genuine hatred. Be better.

This is completely outrageous and disgusting. This must immediately be blocked by Congress and Trump should be impeached for this. The US is now funding Putin’s war machine as he murders civilians including children. We are lost as a country.

Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

Interesting. Planning to do this in next 5 years (i am 56). Not for care or inheritance reasons, but to augment pension income.and to fall into trap of rattling round in a completely inappropriate home in my 80s

If IHT is taxing twice, then so is VAT, so is pretty much every non-income tax... it's a ridiculous argument from the right and wish people would point this out more...

Agreed. Ive not even seen it raised by political parties. Aside from sentimental pull of family home, and accepting you cant compel people to move, trying would be so beneficial societally. Tax/benefit/stamp duty etc are all levers that could be used.

Idiocy from Badenoch on inheritance tax. We need people to be spending money, not hoarding it. There are too many people living in houses totally inappropriate for them in old age...sometimes asset rich cash poor and claiming pension credit. We should incentivise downsizing. Absolutely hopeless.

Its weird, politics isnt it? Lab conf was about giving hope to working classes. Conservatives shaping up to support policies that they hope will appeal to middle classes eg £100k childcare cap removal. AfAIK its not 1966. Lab is the party of graduates and professionals. Tory = blue collar support.

A second Brexit referendum is a truly stupid idea. Straight to rejoin. No fucking about. There’s no logical argument, economic or otherwise, for not rejoining. The British electorate has proven that they don’t have a clue and are easily duped by disinformation campaigns and foreign interference.

I am a Wealth Tax man but not sure markets would let us do that yet. All the chat about triple lock may enable us to have a national convo re pension fairness. Inter generational. Db v dc. Higher rate tax relief on DC etc. Demographics mean much of current sysyem not sustainable.

Rob Weaver @robweaver.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
5% & 3% is default minimum in private sector via Auto Enrolment, I think. I am not advocating race to bottom but that discrepancy cannot be right. Make DB i dunno, 10% and 20% and give half savings to HMRC and half to pay rises for those in DB schemes. Civil Service Pension employer is 29% employer

Hell yes. I mean admittedly contribution levels are high but employer contribs aka taxpayers contribs are sky high, as are benefits compared with DC. I am convinced cutting DB conts employer/employee would be a win win if you used some of the savings to exchequer to give a pay rise today to ppl.

Rob Weaver @robweaver.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Wqtch the Martin Lewis explainer. Its still a 2.5x lock. TL, current cost of DB and higher reate tax relief on private pensions are all unadfordable in long term. Nationak Care Service of far more benefit to a care recipient than a ratcheted TL enhancement. The TL never was the default baseline.
100
Rob Weaver @robweaver.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Well the National Care Service proposed will prevent the need to sell hpuses. You can't have it all ways. Best wishes.

Rob Weaver @robweaver.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Its nowhere near as binary as youre making out. 50 years! Sure fees but its just not right to say a 50 year retirement with just state pension is the norm. And the minimum wage comparison doesnt hold. Many (not all) pensioners asset rich, with savings.

Rob Weaver @robweaver.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
It wont be worthless. 40 years at £25kx8% (5% employer/3% employee as per AE) at 5% gth pa is £267k. About £15K income pa on current annuity rates.

Rob Weaver @robweaver.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I think looking at triple lock and combining with part funding of National Care Service is a great first move. Loads can be done. Use tax/benefits to incentivise downsizing etc. Would reduce need for pension credit claims etc, put money in pensioners' povlckets and get housing market moving etc.
000
Rob Weaver @robweaver.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Its not just state pensions that need to be part of a broader convo. Higher rate tax relief on private pensions and c. 29% 'employer'/taxpayer contribs to Civil Servants' pensions amd other DB are also obvious areas that can be looked at alongside triple lock.
100
Rob Weaver @robweaver.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Thx. Its a thorny issue. There are many poor pensioners of course. And many pensioners are paper millionaires, more proportionally than any other group. We have to stop treating state pensioners as an amorphous group. That 28% will only decline over time...auto enrolment etc.
