Yea, that’s very troubling! Obviously, independently bad actors have the ability to wreak a lot of havoc. But in nations like Malaysia or others where the ruling government historically holds strong influence over state bodies & public media, generative-AI will undoubtedly be wielded in this way.

These pages are essentially spam accounts. They engage in inauthentic behavior which violates Meta’s terms of service & community standards. I've seen many people I know share or even follow these pages. Tell your friends, spread awareness & don’t support pages that traffic misinformation & AI-slop.

This is a disservice to both our people’s history & legitimate historians who have worked hard to document & preserve Chicano/Mexican histories in more appropriate & accurate ways. There are many historical pages online that share real photos & primary sources, but none of these pages are those.

Some images, such as those with text are clearly AI-generated. But, many are intentionally made to resemble actual historical photos with no AI-tags or disclaimers to inform audiences that the images are not real. These pages regularly post content riddled with errors, omissions, & half-truths.

BEWARE: Don’t share content from Mexican American Roots, Raices Mexicanas MX, or Lost Mexican America on Facebook or Instagram. They’re AI-slop pages posing as pseudo-history accounts. They post dozens of automated AI-generated images hourly, deliberately made to resemble old, historical photos.

Before the Immigration Act of 1924, no one came to the U.S. with ‘papers’. They showed up at a port, were screened & stayed if they passed a basic medical/mental health inspection. Anyone who says their ancestors came here ‘legally’ is full of sh*t. Your ancestors showed up & did the bare minimum.
