The left has to articulate a full employment vision where the vision *IS* full employment. Not full employment to achieve some external industrial goals, which has the effect of reifying some jobs as necessary and others as make-work. But full employment because being valued and needed is a right.

@moneyontheleft.bsky.social's body of work on how to redesign public finance is great—and growing. For all those who intuitively already understand that the "how will we pay for it?" question is fake but want to understand how to change the rules of the game, this is IMO the best resource.👇

Does it make sense for the public to ask Wall Street for funds in order to provide public services + infrastructure, when the public can create a way to fund itself instead? Of course not—but that's actually what all states + cities with bonds are currently doing. The Loop is how we make a change.

You and the others at MotL are doing work of such excellent quality and highly practical relevance that it's a pleasure for me to read/listen and promote it. I think the question is not so much *whether* these concepts + proposals will eventually picked up by Left movements as *when.* 🙏

In 1907, William James memorably wrote: "The trail of the human serpent is thus over everything." Nearly 120 years later, even most Leftists treat "money" + "markets" as something other than thoroughly social constructs. @videotroph.bsky.social's interventions today are as brilliant as were WJ's.

Unsurprisingly, this AI cartoon detaches Keynes's thoughts about technology from his broader support for robust fiscal policy and a public option for work. That explains why it ended up in the NY Times, of course.

Nearly 500K people in NYS are officially unemployed. But what if each of these people could go to a government agency that— • Intakes what kinds of jobs they're willing to do; and • Matches them with a government job that meets a known public need? I think this is possible, if NY takes 4 steps. 🧵
