For months, I’ve been raising the alarm about the loss of staff at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and how it is imperiling their work protecting our wildlife and public lands. In December, 25% of the agency was gone. Now, it’s nearly 40%. But FWS still refuses to address the staffing crisis.

And... that's all, folks. San Francisco State University is shutting down its Estuary and Ocean Science Center, the only marine lab on the shores of San Francisco Bay.
screenshot of an email that starts with:

"Dear Friends of the Estuary & Ocean Science Center,

I’m very sad to say that SFSU has started the process of shutting down the Estuary & Ocean Science Center / Romberg Tiburon Campus. The doors will be closed by the end of September. As you know, SFSU has been saying for years that they can no longer afford to operate the RT campus, with continued declines in enrollment at the university. The 53-acre site, with all its deferred maintenance, was required to become fully self-supporting. Unfortunately, maintenance and operation funds have been very difficult to find, even as grant funding has grown for our projects, programs, and student training."

Conservative and Liberal Americans need to clearly understand what happened. The President attempted to give himself power to seize and deport several million United States citizens, directly violating the Constitution he swore to preserve. Only six on the Court barely stopped him.

On the fourth anniversary of "Dobbs," I suggest reading, or re-reading, the jointly written dissent of Breyer, Kagan and Sotomayor. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/21p...
"Power, not reason, is the new currency of this Court’s
decision making.” Payne, 501 U. S., at 844 (Marshall, J.,
dissenting). Roe has stood for fifty years. Casey, a precedent about precedent specifically confirming Roe, has stood
for thirty. And the doctrine of stare decisis—a critical element of the rule of law—stands foursquare behind their
continued existence. The right those decisions established
and preserved is embedded in our constitutional law, both
originating in and leading to other rights protecting bodily
integrity, personal autonomy, and family relationships.
The abortion right is also embedded in the lives of women—
shaping their expectations, influencing their choices about
relationships and work, supporting (as all reproductive
rights do) their social and economic equality. Since the
right’s recognition (and affirmation), nothing has changed
to support what the majority does today. Neither law nor
facts nor attitudes have provided any new reasons to reach
a different result than Roe and Casey did. All that has
changed is this Court.

Rising costs didn't erode trust. Technology didn't erode trust. Biased admissions that have existed for a century didn't erode trust suddenly in the last decade. The self-censoring & campus speech stuff starts to get at the problem, but again, the root cause of that is not even mentioned here.
