Preprint: This short paper is my take on how to calculate/report absolute measures of time-difference-of-arrival positioning in #acoustictelemetry setups. Beyond reporting, these error measures can be passed to statespace models (like CTCRW) for very accurate post-processing estimates.

New preprint out: I use an extended Kalman filter for #acoustictelemetry positioning. It solves positions more-less instantly while applying a CTCRW movement model. It works great on datasets that don't have huge outliers (due to horizontal reflections).

Nice paper on crawfish movement, including #acoustictelemetry at coarse & fine scales - the use of fine-scale telemetry suggesting even smaller territories than calculated with the coarser array, while mark and recapture showed some sub-adults dispersed over 160 km! doi.org/10.1002/aqc....

Last week, we were out tagging tope in the Bristol Channel with acoustic tags - the first tope tagged by the Swansea Fish Tracking team! 🎉🦈 BIG thanks to ZSL/Project SIARC for teaming up with us on this & showing us the ropes with tope - now to sit back and wait to see where they go!

Two great days this week tagging skate in the Bristol Channel - we managed to catch + tag individuals across four species of skate 🥳 These skate will be tracked for the next few years across our channel-wide array so we can learn about their movement patterns and spatial usage #trackingnotslacking

Put this on your reading list: Continuous-time HMMs for animal movement data. I saw Dom present a great intro to this work at ISEC 2024. The gist is it's a very fast model for fitting HMMs to temporally irregular data (based on maximum likelihood).
