I don't think Pete Alonso could have ever understood just how much it means to this fanbase, this city, to have a big ticket FA not only choose Baltimore, but EMBRACE Baltimore.

So disheartening to see actors and athletes I respected (and who definitely don’t need the money) on TV shilling for gambling sites.

Two Black mayors took cities that the country loves to write off and made them measurably safer. That’s not a fluke. That’s a blueprint. Chicago and Baltimore just posted numbers that should be front-page news. They’re not. We need to talk about why. 🧵 www.theroot.com/opinion-blac...

MLB is like the Democratic Party in that they’re deeply concerned about popularity and all their actions seem to be aimed at capturing some mythical person who has never become a baseball fan and will probably never become a baseball fan meanwhile baseball fans are yelling PLEASE JUST PLAY BASEBALL

Urban stadiums rule! Baltimore would’ve been such a great host city. FIFA blew it.

I agree! And I’ll add another bold prediction: Basallo will be the first player to hit the B&O warehouse in a game. Effortless power!

Wooden baseball bats: Exclusive clubs
It turned out that the hardest props to find for "No Mean City: Baltimore 1966" were wooden baseball bats. Outside of professional baseball, they are pretty much collector's items, not commonly for sale in sporting goods stores. Our intrepid props hunter went to a Play It Again Sports store just outside Baltimore and found dozens of used and new bats for sale -- all metal.

One thing I feel ought to be discussed more is the fact that basically all rural and suburban places in the US are subsidized by cities. They resent cities. They insult cities. They elect politicians who abuse cities. But none of them could survive without cities.

Here’s something that’s really important for everyone to understand. If we design our cities just for cars, they fail everyone, including drivers. If we design our cities with many great CHOICES in how to get around, they work better for everyone, including drivers. Spread the word.
