In the episode I’m watching, Jeb Bartlet is wearing a University of London tie (because he attended the LSE when it was part of the University of London).

I forgot to post yesterday when I got to 1000 so anyway: woohoo 1001 Wordles 🥳
A screenshot of the New York Times’ Wordle game showing that I have completed 1001 games with a 100% win rate.

Can your ‘ChatGPT’ do this, huh? (Ok yes it probably can, fine)
Ridiculously hard NYT Connections - only 5% of players made no mistakes but one of them was me, phew.

This is in hard mode btw. Wordle Bot only averages 4 and it cheats! (It uses words that it knows or thinks can’t be an answer.)

Recently results. It’s really hard to get below 3.5 attempts without blowing out the luck rating.
An info graphic showing that my last 14 Wordles average 3.6 attempts. The NYT average is 4.

For Wordle I only got in the top 40% with an average of 3.55 guesses. I find that disappointing because I would have thought 3.55 was pretty good but obviously not. I wonder what the distribution is.

Ok I’m showing off.
A New York Times graphic generated by its “your year in puzzles” round-up, showing that I solved its Connections game without mistakes 261 times this year which apparently is in the top 1% of all players. Nice.

Some birds like the burbs. The Baltimore oriole is one of them. You have many opportunities to see this tangerine songster. Cromwell Valley in #Baltimore is one of the best. And unlike the O's, they do not disappoint. www.thebaltimorebanner.com/culture/thin...

Unlike their namesake team, Baltimore orioles are soaring in Cromwell Valley
This is the time of year for Baltimore’s birds – those pint-sized songsters whose bold tangerine sets off beautifully against the green trees.

Please admire the spirit of optimism that leads Japanese exporters to send this tiny plea to couriers in distant lands
A box of stuff sent from Japan with a tiny label attached. The label reads: “Dear delivery personnel, thank you for bringing this parcel one step closer to its destination! This parcel is on it’s [sic] way to someone special who can’t wait to receive it. We’d truly appreciate it if you could handle it with a little extra care. Your thoughtfulness and hard work mean so much to us. Thank you again!

More than 90% of schools in England ban mobile phone use, survey shows
Head of National Education Union calls for statutory ban on phones in schools and social media ban for under-16s Almost all schools in England have banned mobile phone use by pupils, according to the first national survey conducted, as the leader of the largest teaching union called for a statutory ban owing to the “damaging impact” on young people. The national survey, ordered by Rachel de Souza, the children’s commissioner for England, showed that headteachers have swiftly instituted bans on smartphone use during school hours. The survey of more than 15,000 schools found that 99.8% of primary schools and 90% of secondary schools have some form of ban. Continue reading...
