I am a lifelong dress hater but a friend walked me through a bit of the Dressmaker game and oh my god. I was just thinking about this the other day. Chuck was never a work of art but I enjoyed the concept and the characters for the first couple of seasons. The level to which this show jumped the shark and became a thing of utter garbage in every aspect is almost incomprehensible.

this is a very thoughtful and nuanced piece. i think this paragraph is especially important to keep in mind. a lot of people are talking about geller as if he has spent the last ten years doing his best to atone for what he did, or asking if ten years of "good work" can outweigh one rape.

Regardless of whether or not you believe that rapists should not have to disclose their histories of sexual violence to their co-workers, I don't think Geller should have agreed to collaborate with me - especially for a video about James Franco - knowing that I've often written about living as a survivor of sexual violence (which I assume he knew because he knew of me and it was the subject of my most popular essay). I feel as though I was a small link in a larger chain of survivors used - deliberately or not - as props in a greater project of image rehabilitation. Every collaboration Geller did with an outspoken victim of sexual assault helped to legitimize his public image, and it seems none of us were given the choice of making an informed decision whether or not to support that project. While it's possible that Geller has deconstructed, his actions don't align with the argument that he's spent the last decade "accounting."
