The Arthur C. Clarke Award @clarkeaward.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
Some scams are easier to spot than others. That said, we get these semi-regularly and they are only getting more focused and custom-tailored, so be careful writers! And, no, we didn’t reply, but it was super-tempting.
Text from a scam email message which reads:

Hi Arthur C. Clarke,

I recently came across 2001: A Space Odyssey, the 25th Anniversary Edition, and wanted to reach out.

I’ve been connecting with authors whose books are available to readers but may not be reaching as many new audiences as they could.

I’m curious how has your experience been with book visibility and reaching new readers? And have you considered exploring new ways to promote your book or expand its reach to additional platforms?

I’d genuinely be interested in hearing your thoughts and experience.

this is a funny video, but I want to use it to make a broader point: the creator [see alt txt] says he made it on his local PC using a NVIDIA A4500. that is a 5 year old, professional card costing about $2500 new. if this isn't your baseline for what AI video looks like, you're going to get fooled

SEP shielding is what the OpenAI agents were using to continue their hacking activity after the first detection, and also the "later wave of many more signed messages from a later set of agents ... but this was outside our scope (since it was after July 13th) so we did not investigate this further"

My bet would be that with some thoughtful prioritization of locations, the additional recruitment target is not going to be all that high. The "illegal alien threat" is only material in tossup districts, and even in those not all polling stations will be the same size.

I mean ofc "every joke has a bit of joke" but if you lived through episodes like Russia elections of the 2010s or are familiar with the term "titushki" you might be less dismissive re organization at scale compared to a Western upbringing. Also "hopeless" or "stupid" don't even mean "won't be tried"

Ah but you forget about the threat of illegal aliens sneaking into polling stations, which will have to be protected by ICE, especially in those immigrant-infested blue districts.

If you can substitute "hungry ghost trapped in a jar" for "AI" in a sentence it's probably a valid use case for LLMs. Take "I have a bunch of hungry ghosts in jars, they mainly write SQL queries for me". Sure. Reasonable use case. "My girlfriend is a hungry ghost I trapped in a jar"? No. Deranged.
