#MosaicMonday We’re starting the week with one of our favourite ladies from late antiquity, Galla Placidia. “The good Shepherd" mosaic can be found in her mausoleum in Ravenna. The stunning scene is eclipsed only by the gorgeous geometric style starry sky. #AncientBluesky🏺
"The good Shepherd" mosaic depicts Christ with a golden halo surrounded by a flock of sheep on a sunny day. Beyond the frame around the scene, the vault of the mausoleum is decorated with a stylised depiction of the stars in the night sky. The sky is rendered in a deep blue colour.
