1/ Transposable elements are often called "jumping genes" because they mobilize within genomes. 🧬 But did you know they can also jump 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 cells? 🤯 Our new study reveals how retrotransposons invade the germline directly from somatic cells. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... A short thread 🧵👇

Looks like that @altmetric.com might soon be tracking papers on Bluesky. Fingers crossed, as I think this will further stimulate scientists to make the switch from Twitter!

Here we present evidence genes involved in plant-virus interaction may be regulated by epigenetic modules, with some of them having roles in tolerance to repeated infections. A fantastic collaborative effort with @sfelena and Kutnjak's labs. bmcplantbiol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....

It was a great pleasure to host Marco Incarbone for a seminar in our institute I2SysBio today with @sfelena.bsky.social. Great way to resume the new year with fascinating plant virus stories and great scientific discussions.
