Japan is a wild country sometimes. It's currently 22°c, rising to 27°c later today. I've just got on a packed commuter train at 09:20am, and the heating is on! The heating!!!! It really turns to October 1st here and everyone decides it's suddenly cold. This is a warm summer's day in Scotland 🤯

So I just watched the last episode of Digimon Beatbreak, and holy shit that was a good show! Definitely the best Digimon anime to date. If you've not watched it and you either a) have any Digimon nostalgia, or b) like anime, then you owe it to yourself to watch it!

Moving my husband and two cats over to Japan has made for quite a busy August, so I've barely posted on here. So you can have a picture of us being reunited, as a treat 💫

A tall woman with red hair wearing black with a yellow shawl standing next to a shorter man with sunglasses and a beard, wearing jeans and a colourful shirt. They are cuddling in front of a Japanese castle with white walls and a green roof.

Just saying, the trans community told everyone that once The Guardian had successfully dragged trans rights into the mud they'd move on to the nuerodivergent. And they were right.

A couple of years ago, I started a really ambitious catch up for @xplainthexmen.bsky.social as my husband was away in Japan for a few months, and I felt lonely. I caught up in time for them to announce they were ending the pod and listened to the final episode this week. [1/2]

I haven't posted on here much recently because I've been busy as sin. Lots of socialising and Japanese lessons. Also moving apartments in Japan and getting ready for my husband and cats to arrive in Japan in TWO WEEKS <3 I'm so excited! 💖

Watching the UK is roll out its stated-sanctioned transphobia from abroad is crazy. Like, until moving to Japan, I had never been trans anywhere else (other than a week's holiday in Spain or Germany). It was so easy to accept and internalise that there was something wrong with me because of it.

Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2

The Luddites loved technology. They owned looms at home and would ‘mod’ them to count threads. Their battle was against worker exploitation. The degradation of their rights, safety and wages. They were against a handful of rich businessmen owning the means of production. Sound familiar?

So I just finished Rachel Pollack's Doom Patrol run today. My god, she was a talent. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I preferred it to Morrison? They were both wonderful runs, but Coagula just spoke to me in ways I've rarely found characters can in superhero comics.

I have definitely acclimatised to Japan too much. I left the house for work today without a blazer and was instantly like "oh, it's a bit chilly." It's 28 degrees celsius! I'm from SCOTLAND... this is the sort of temperature that would normally kill me.

I try and keep my nose clean and not trash talk other folks in comics, it is unprofessional. But I am also a proud trans woman. And John Byrne has a long, repeated history of disgusting transphobic statements on the very personal forum where he posted these comics that are now being collected.

I've been doing a big read through of Emma Frost's appearances throughout the history of Marvel (this started when she was added to Rivals), and since New X-Men is coinciding with @xplainthexmen.bsky.social I've slowed down to match their coverage. It's so fun reading simultaneously to the podcast!

I just finished reading the New Defenders run and oh golly, was that an experience. I... really liked it? But there were definitely issues/story arcs that weren't good. But somehow, I still enjoyed them? Honestly the exact sort of wack-a-doodle I crave from time to time.

Thinking about Gniesbert again

A german screenshot of a twitter post

It says Mein scheiss hund gniesbert ist schon wieder in meinen gaming pc geklettert

It translates ti My shitty dog gniesbert climbed into my gaming PC again

It shows a picture of a Shiba Inu in a box(maybe a gaming PC?) who is very content with himself.

Learning Japanese is challenging as all heck, but the concept of kanji has suddenly stopped being a) so intimidating, or b) so incomprehensible. It's still an amazingly unusual system for a native English speaker, but it's starting to click into place. Finally 🥳
