Japan is a wild country sometimes. It's currently 22°c, rising to 27°c later today. I've just got on a packed commuter train at 09:20am, and the heating is on! The heating!!!! It really turns to October 1st here and everyone decides it's suddenly cold. This is a warm summer's day in Scotland 🤯

So I just watched the last episode of Digimon Beatbreak, and holy shit that was a good show! Definitely the best Digimon anime to date. If you've not watched it and you either a) have any Digimon nostalgia, or b) like anime, then you owe it to yourself to watch it!

The last 4 TTRPGs I played were: Songs for the Dusk Vampire: The Masquerade v20 Werewolf: The Apocalypse v20 Pathfinder 2e

Moving my husband and two cats over to Japan has made for quite a busy August, so I've barely posted on here. So you can have a picture of us being reunited, as a treat 💫

A tall woman with red hair wearing black with a yellow shawl standing next to a shorter man with sunglasses and a beard, wearing jeans and a colourful shirt. They are cuddling in front of a Japanese castle with white walls and a green roof.

It's worth noting that - imo - SFTD is a great system and world, and my issues with this genre of TTRPG is entirely something personal to me and my style of play.

Turns out I don't like it when the game world is too malleable. It felt like every roll ran the risk of leaving a big thumbprint on the current scene, or sometimes even the world itself. Sometimes it's fun to roll dice for low consequence reasons, and sometimes nothing much happens. That's okay!

Robyn🌹 @redbreastedrobyn.bsky.social · 28/08/2026

Thank you for putting this into words. I just ended a short campaign of Songs for the Dusk due to out of game shenanigans, but you've outlined a problem with this style of game that I couldn't quite explain.

Just saying, the trans community told everyone that once The Guardian had successfully dragged trans rights into the mud they'd move on to the nuerodivergent. And they were right.

For reference, I now live in Japan, and my husband is moving here to join me next week. Jay & Miles Xplain the X-Men was an amazing podcast that was there for me when I felt alone, and I will always cherish the company they gave me 💖 What an amazing podcast from start to finish. [2/2]

A couple of years ago, I started a really ambitious catch up for @xplainthexmen.bsky.social as my husband was away in Japan for a few months, and I felt lonely. I caught up in time for them to announce they were ending the pod and listened to the final episode this week. [1/2]

I haven't posted on here much recently because I've been busy as sin. Lots of socialising and Japanese lessons. Also moving apartments in Japan and getting ready for my husband and cats to arrive in Japan in TWO WEEKS <3 I'm so excited! 💖

So to all my trans sisters in the UK, I have so much love, sympathy, and support. And to all the allies in the UK? Be loud - and aggressive - in your support. Be confrontational when you see transphobia. Protect trans people. Especially trans women.

020

Robyn🌹 @redbreastedrobyn.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

The UK is a cesspool of transphobia, and whilst I always knew that, I don't think I ever realised how much that affected my sense of self. I feel more at ease here with my womanhood than I ever did in the UK.

110

Robyn🌹 @redbreastedrobyn.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

I never went more than a week without being misgendered in the UK. In 6 years of being trans, it happened constantly. Then I moved to Japan, and my transness stopped being an issue overnight. I don't get weird looks in bathrooms, and strangers say 'she' about me in English. Even teenagers!

110

Robyn🌹 @redbreastedrobyn.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

Watching the UK is roll out its stated-sanctioned transphobia from abroad is crazy. Like, until moving to Japan, I had never been trans anywhere else (other than a week's holiday in Spain or Germany). It was so easy to accept and internalise that there was something wrong with me because of it.

Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2

The Luddites loved technology. They owned looms at home and would ‘mod’ them to count threads. Their battle was against worker exploitation. The degradation of their rights, safety and wages. They were against a handful of rich businessmen owning the means of production. Sound familiar?

With all that said, it's a very enjoyable run. I think you could read it without reading anything else, but it's maybe like jumping straight into Simonson's X Factor. There's a lot of backstory you won't know, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem!

110

Robyn🌹 @redbreastedrobyn.bsky.social · 26/06/2026

Honestly it's hard to say. It's a very weird run that follows on directly from Grant Morrison, but is also a bit of a soft reboot in that a lot of characters leave or join the team at the start. The run references the previous runs of DP a lot, and is intentionally very weird and opaque.

Robyn🌹 @redbreastedrobyn.bsky.social · 25/06/2026

The scene of her talking to Cliff about her transness (he basically says "you used to be a man" and she responds with "and what about you?") was just phenomenally well done. Coagula, you will always be famous in this household ✨️

020

Robyn🌹 @redbreastedrobyn.bsky.social · 25/06/2026

So I just finished Rachel Pollack's Doom Patrol run today. My god, she was a talent. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I preferred it to Morrison? They were both wonderful runs, but Coagula just spoke to me in ways I've rarely found characters can in superhero comics.

I have definitely acclimatised to Japan too much. I left the house for work today without a blazer and was instantly like "oh, it's a bit chilly." It's 28 degrees celsius! I'm from SCOTLAND... this is the sort of temperature that would normally kill me.

I try and keep my nose clean and not trash talk other folks in comics, it is unprofessional. But I am also a proud trans woman. And John Byrne has a long, repeated history of disgusting transphobic statements on the very personal forum where he posted these comics that are now being collected.
