Writing something up

I don’t endorse extrajudicial murder, especially as it looks like it will be used to justify further harm on trans people and others. And I’d be lying if I said there isn’t a part of me, watching a video of a man bleeding out on social media, that feels some measure of empathy—even though that man would have gleefully watched me die the same way, and in fact actively campaigned for it, for all trans people, institutionally and personally. But I don’t feel sadness. The world is better without him in it—even if I wouldn’t have chosen the way he went, I won’t shed a tear for a man who dedicated his life to making mine shorter. He was a Nazi in a nice suit, and the only thing respectable about him now is the silence he finally left behind.
What’s enraging is watching the political establishment scramble to lionize him. Not just Trump and his cronies trying to build a martyr out of a Nazi, but mainstream figures too: Ezra Klein praising him for “doing politics the right way,” Gavin Newsom saying we should “honor Charlie’s memory” by continuing his “good-faith debate.” Fuck off. The only reason you can say that is because Kirk played his bigoted game in a suit, looking respectable while calling for the imprisonment and eradication of Muslims, Jews, trans people, queer folks, the homeless, women, BIPOC, everyone who didn’t fit his fascist vision.
Meanwhile, anyone who so much as acknowledges that Kirk was “controversial” loses their jobs. MSNBC’s Matthew Dowd got canned. Trans writer Gretchen Felker-Martin lost her Red Hood comic for making the exact kind of biting joke that’s her entire career—she literally wrote Manhunt, a book where TERFs get murdered in an apocalypse. Even I, for simply posting on Bluesky that I “dishonor” Charlie Kirk’s memory by living my life joyously, got flagged and briefly censored for being “rude.” That’s the rot of “centrism”: pretending to hold the middle ground while tilting the scales in fascism’s favor.

Red eyes blaze like suns, piercing through their shadowed lies, truth will not be caged. A metallic green bottle fly clings to a leaf, its iridescent body glowing with emerald and gold while vivid red eyes and delicate veined wings shimmer in sharp detail against a dark blurred background. #macro

A vivid close-up macro photograph of a metallic green bottle fly perched on the edge of a deep green leaf. The fly’s body glows with iridescent shades of emerald, turquoise, and gold, its abdomen banded with shimmering hues that catch the light like polished metal. Its large compound eyes dominate its face, glowing an intense, jewel-like red that contrasts starkly against the metallic green of its thorax and the fine white hairs along its face and mouthparts. The fly’s wings are semi-transparent, with intricate vein patterns clearly visible, and they reflect subtle hints of violet and blue where the light catches them. Tiny bristles cover its body and legs, which grip firmly onto the textured surface of the leaf. The background is a soft, dark blur with faint golden tones, isolating the insect and giving it a striking, almost otherworldly presence. The photograph highlights both the alien beauty and fine anatomical details of the fly, revealing a creature that shimmers with surreal intensity.

Towering, two-tone heavily-crevassed ice at the edge of the Greenland Ice Sheet - for #Sharemondays2025 this week. #Greenland #Ice #crevasses #photography #landscape #landscapephotography #Nikon #OPOTY #PhotoRippin

This image shows heavily crevassed ice at the western edge of the Greenland Ice Sheet. I've referred to the ice as 'two tone' because that in the foreground looks almost monochrome, whereas that in the background is much more blue in colour.

The image was shot whilst I was carrying out research looking into the lakes that sit at the ice margins. As climate warms and the ice sheet retreats, depressions in the topography are exposed which fill with water to form lakes. These lakes in such 'ice marginal' locations are becoming larger and more numerous, and my project is investigating the thermal properties of the lakes and the impacts that they are having on the dynamic properties of the ice itself (i.e. how fast it is moving).

The image here shows ice above one of our study lakes (that has informally become known to me and my team as 'Chime Lake'). Its heavily crevassed nature suggests that the ice here is dynamic with significant stresses operating.
