My bad for not being active for months and months. I finished this eagle for a 250th Anniversary themed show earlier this year and never posted it. Seems like a good day to do that. Happy Independence Day! #baldeagle #4thofjuly #fourthofjuly #250thanniversary #250thbirthday #bird #wildlifeart

My dog had emergency medical issues this week which forced me to cancel a couple income opportunities. I would love some pet portrait (or other?) orders to make up for it and help cover the vet bills. Options, samples, and rates can be found on my website. www.rebeccakriz.com/pet-portraits

I decided to finish a piece based on concepts from several months ago, when I saw news about Ethiopian wolves likely being a pollinator! Gouache with colored pencil, touches of Posca pen & chalk pastel to really get that pollen feel on the snout. #pollinators #ethiopianwolf #malachitesunbird #art

Reddish canid appears from a green succulent plant. There is a flower stalk with a bright green bird. Two butterflies are flying above.

Digital illustration of a finely-inked heron clutching a spectral water snake in its left foot. The setting is a dark wetland on a starry night, among tall grasses. I've got about a billion photos I've taken over the years and most of you have never seen them so I'm going to start sharing them more frequently. These are scenes from Olympic National Park one winter.

a photo looking up at a tree that's covered in light greenish, really, really long lichens

a photo of a forest with down moss and lichen covered logs fallen across a small stream in a zigzag pattern

small light brown mushrooms sprouting from the side of a tree trunk through finger like moss

a branch of lichens like a small garden, the lichens are whitish like puffy fingers and brown cups like little fairy umbrellas

I have a one day show (Verde Valley Comic Expo) later this month and I wanted some new "fantasy" art. I doodled some concepts of this critter last year. It is inspired by a tiny cactus I have in my yard. Horned lizard and badger were additional influences. #creaturedesign #dragon #cactus

Today’s random piece of nostalgic palaeoart: Alice Woodward’s Pteranodon! This is a very old reconstruction, being published in 1912, but the anatomy is quite good for the time! Woodward’s approach to restoring the crest if wonderfully bizarre, looking almost like a hump rather than a crest! (1/3)

A pair of Pteranodon, giant flying reptiles, soar over a calm sea. Numerous gull-like birds are also present, flying around or standing on the shore.

29/ #ArtAdventCalendar Day 23 “Echoes” Two artworks based on the same still life, using an intaglio process and watercolours. Plate size for each artwork 11 x 21.5” (28 x 54.6 cm). Each print is on cream BFK Rives with phthalo green ink.

The same still life was used for both etchings, including a copper jug on a tray on the left, a paperback with a fabric cover (I’d sewn) on the right, tiger lilies and a peacock feather in the jug. I created a realistic image first, then drew the second artwork in a more abstracted form. The echoes are between the real peacock feather and the one part of the fabric in the book cover, and the real leaves and the ones on the tablecloth. Then the abstracted version is meant to be an echo of the more realistic still life. I also included our light fixture which has lilies for the covers in the abstracted artwork. The colours are coppers, tiger lily orange, greens and peacock blue.

Day 9, exploring pigments. This is painted with PB28 Cobalt Blue and PO62 Benzimida Orange. Don't they make a lovely range of browns? #ArtAdventCalendar

A watercolor painting of a California Tortoiseshell butterfly. These medium sized butterflies are mostly orange, with brown to black edges on their wings and a few spots in the same color. The leading edge of the forewings has a large rectangular mark merging with border. A few small, bright white spots accent the outer edge of the forewings.

This butterfly is seen from above, with the wings spread. It is depicted on a light blue rectangle, casting a deeper blue shadow across the rectangle and onto the white page. Lighting is coming strongly from the right.

The orange paint is PO62 Benzimida Orange. It is a warm, medium-to-light orange color, semi-opaque, and slightly staining in watercolor. The other color used is Cobalt Blue PB28, which is a classic sky-blue and softly textural. The deep brown and neutral tones in this piece are entirely created with these two colors, which are neutralizing complements. White highlights are painted with Dr. PH Martin's Bleedproof White gouache.

A female Spotted Towhee stands momentarily still on a dead ponderosa pine branch while foraging for food on the ground. Around her are greenleaf manzanita, several Vosnesensky bumble bees, and a California sister butterfly. A ponderosa sapling springs up at the right of the image.
