E&Z on the loose in Madison I asked for apple but she gave me pumpkin. I didn't correct her. It is very good pie. My gamble paid off.

Zeke gets his whiskers all up in my slice of pumpkin pie. He's after the whipped cream.

A win! The Supreme Court has denied the Trump administration’s emergency request to enforce new mail-ballot restrictions ahead of the midterm elections. The decision leaves the lower court’s injunction in place, meaning the new USPS restrictions will not take effect for this election.

I think I need an intervention. I've stayed up till 4:09am here and I've just eaten a tin of vegetable & bean chili straight from the can because (a) there is no other food in the house (2) literally all the dishes are dirty so I couldn't microwave it. ... Oh I could have used a mug. Damn.

FWIW I don’t think that AI is an existential threat, nor on track to become one. I do however think that the leaders of the biggest AI companies, AI’s strongest boosters, and some of the folks who are most adept at using it to exploit others are actively hastening along OTHER existential threats.

I'm a mathematician. I am neither hyped nor excited about today's AI navier-stokes claim. Mostly, I feel sick that so much money is thrown at shit like this while, meantime, museums are closing and the climate is fucked up and people are dying and we're all told there isn't enough money. Bullshit.

The people who organized, marched, went on strike, and fought for things we now take for granted like weekends, the 40-hour workweek, overtime, safer workplaces, and the right to organize. It’s worth remembering that none of that was just handed over because companies suddenly decided to be nice.
