I agree with the part about "wanting different things" but this North American tendency has got to stop: racism isn't just a matter of "ignorant white people." Racial ideologies such as the branqueamiento depicted here were a product of scholars, lettered people who knew exactly what they wanted.

Good job, California. 15 states to go. No child should marry. A child who marries isn’t emancipated, her (and it’s usually a girl) new spouse becomes her guardian. If he abuses her, she cannot go to a domestic violence shelter. She cannot initiate a divorce. She can’t have her own money.
