I'm incredibly excited to release version 1.2 of my Castlevania Port! This version adds 16 graphics on top of all the features of my existing Castlevania port. In collaboration with Fiuke Bnuy, we updated the graphics and reworked tiles and levels to look better with the additional color palette.

I'm going to be attending retroworldexpo.com, and I'll have a build of the 16-bit Castlevania there on an actual SNES cart that you can check out! I'll also have my other ports available to try, and I always love chatting with people about the ports, romhacking, and anything else!

It's taking a bit longer, but I think the results will be worth it. Here's the progress on updating the tiles for Castlevania. This is the outdoor section of lvl 4 (stage 11) with updated tiles and tile groups. Please forgive the terrible game play:

I've been working on this for over a year: I'm remaking all of Ocarina of Time's prerenders in 3D, trying to match the N64 style rather than the 3DS one. The provisional name is OoT unJPEG. It will be distributed as both a romhack that runs on real N64 hardware and a mod for Zelda 64 Recompiled.

How I made the road : I painted the texture by hand in photoshop, added noise, directional blur. Then I made 8 looping frames in perspective. I wrote a tile compressor (K-means clustering) to compress it to 512 tiles + custom dithering and palette quantization to 16 colors in Megadrive's precision

Small update on the Megadrive *rally game* ? I added sprites and did some optimization so CPU is still at 70% usage with a stable 60 fps. I'm a bit disappointed by the sprite width limit per-line. I wanted a lot more dense vegetation but it's not possible with sprites. I'll try other methods.

Aside from the controller support, a few games I tweaked the audio engine to improve some sound effects. For LifeForce I updated the image in the options screen. And finally, in Kid Icarus I finally fixed the bug where sprites weren't properly going behind BG tiles:

A big change I'm working on is allowing BOSSES to be shot with the PEARL POWER. I think it's the right thing to do, since it make the power-up feel more meaningful. But each of the 8 unique bosses need to be re-coded a bit to support this. Should be worth it I hope! #nesdev
