One of the things that struck me quite glaringly when I moved back to the UK nearly 20 years ago is the tendency to determine fact by public opinion. "Is it raining? Mandy from Bolton thinks it is not! Daphne from Swansea says it definitely is! Call in and tell us what you think! Is it raining?"

Generally prefer 3rd person. There's a belief that 1st person narratives connect with the reader more cause you'd feel like you're the character in the story. Which it might but often i feel like i'm trapped in the head of a stupid person making silly choices that i would never make.
