I did not have a good July. CORSAIR, however, had the biggest glowup of all time and now we're tackling public access AND other dogs at a place WAY ahead of where he was. He runs all my errands with me. He disengages from the sight of other dogs all on his own. So... swings and roundabouts?

The title is in my name, it requires a bunch of repairs I am being constantly hounded about that I can't afford and which were not disclosed to me, and I can't afford the new plates+registration so it's a driveway ornament that threatens my SSI.

I will also try to write up a.... relatively.... short version of what happened with my mum but the TL;DR is I have her car now, it only cost 5+ hours at the airport with no clue where she was, a long phone call with the cops, a ton of money I didn't have, and years off my life.

Sorry I have been absent. Some real FUCKSHIT with my mum happened. It took up all of July. I am not kidding. A lot of good things happened with Corsair in that time, and I would love to be detailed about that--I'll try to find some time to write that up.

AND he can finally play hooligan with other dogs who can match his energy while he ALSO learns how not to be a pushy nuisance and even moderate his energy--or at least not mutually ramp up until one or both dogs are over the top. Dogs can be fun! They aren't just scary/stressful!

--we can't always do that, so now he's learning that being "around" a dog isn't necessarily frustrating, it's easy actually. He CAN read other dogs' body language and they can read HIS (key) and they aren't all waiting to jump his ass or just get in his face.

The play is helping him learn to be socially appropriate with other dogs and to release the pressure valve on how emotionally frustrating it is to be around other dogs. That pressure is released instantly when we leave the dog behind which is our norm, but--

Corsair has been doing well at his board+train so far! He's currently being bullied with things like "exercises around a crated dog where he can't interact with the crated dog" and "holding down+stays while a little chihuahua is paraded around in front of him" and this is mixed with actual dog PLAY.

I'm glad I won't have to worry about Joe and the cats in my absence but yeah, let's just subject the guy with medication-interference on his heat tolerance and a heat-sensitive energy disorder and a heat-sensitive HEART CONDITION to a cooker for 4 fucking days before he gets on a plane.

I can't help but laugh: our AC is broken and the repair guy won't be here until Monday, AFTER I've flown out to Georgia.

Oh, and as a side note: he did not TOUCH the benebone at all. So I guess he's with the heelers on that one!

He's already out and experiencing Social Skills with his cousin (who is also there!) and one of his sisters will show up this weekend, and practising his down-stays while someone else walks a Chihuahua in front of him LOL But he's learning to PLAY with other dogs AND disengage.... my baby boy,

He was a completely normal dog about getting out at the rest stop and also when we reached our destination... not a crazy critter. Actually, at the rest stop, he even let an unhoused dude pet him and didn't jump on the guy or anything. He did give kisses, which the guy loved.

These went over GREAT, and he was actually a PERFECT angel for all SEVEN hours that drive took??? We got out at a rest stop 3 hours in and he sniffed the WHOLE rest stop and ate some ice cubes and then hopped back into the car and stayed chill about it.

I actually used plain kibble back when I was teaching him to settle during long (30 minute - 2 hour) drives and I'm sure that'd be fine but I'd like to give him something nicer for this. It's a big ask of him!

Corsair is podcast neutral, which is fine because it means /I/ can listen to whatever I want in the car--I prefer podcasts for long drives, I'm just glad he doesn't care if dogs are barking in them. I'll take a benebone in case he wants it, and... baby food dots? Can you give me an example?

I do plan to take him out at some point and let him stretch his legs, hydrate him, etc. And once he gets to our destination he'll be able to run around and be a dog. It's just... y'know. I'm anxious about my boy.
