Why isn't one of the broken mugs here (in this Guardian cartoon) the famous "Controls on Immigration" one? Or is that not a slogan Burnham fans are prepared to say was bad?
A political cartoon from The Guardian showing a pile of broken mugs, with slogans on them saying "NI rise," "Doom & Gloom," "Two-child cap" and "Winter fuel cut" (all references to bad Starmer policies), and on top an intact mug with steam rising from it, an image of Andy Burnham and the word "Hope".

📣Out now on #firstview! Lloyd Bowen @lloydbowen.bsky.social @cardiffuni.bsky.social on 'Revisiting the Origins of the ‘Roundhead’ in 1641' #Terminology #Debate #Drama #Pamphlets #Theatre #Puritan #Print 17thc📜🗃️ www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
This article revisits the contested origins of the political label ‘Roundhead’ during the English Revolution, challenging the conventional view that the term originated spontaneously during the Westminster tumults of December 1641. While historians have generally relied upon John Rushworth’s later account of David Hyde denouncing parliamentary crowds as ‘round-headed dogs’, this study demonstrates that the contemporary evidence is more ambiguous. It explores alternative formulations, particularly Hyde’s reported insult ‘Ram-headed rogues’, and situates both terms within a wider culture of anti-Puritan satire, theatrical caricature, and political mockery. Drawing upon pamphlets, dramatic literature, manuscript annotations, and print culture, the article argues that ‘Roundhead’ may already have circulated before December 1641, notably in Richard Brathwaite’s Mercurius Britannicus. The article therefore proposes a more complex genealogy for the term, showing how political identities emerged through the interaction of print, performance, satire, and popular mobilization rather than through a single moment of invention.

Smithsonian museum labels George Washington a
"town destroyer" while omitting why he ordered the attacks.
The National Museum of the American Indian's exhibit describes the destruction of 40 Iroquois towns but leaves out that the campaign was a direct response to devastating raids that crippled the Continental Army, destroyed frontier settlements and took prisoners.
The Trump administration has threatened funding cuts over what it calls the Smithsonian's push to reframe America's founding as "a deeply flawed creation of the country."
