Since today is an International Day Against Trafficking, we wanted to talk about ethical production of art & merch. All our projects are co-led by a trafficking survivor, so this is really important to us! We also hope this inspires you to follow these guidelines in your own art too. 🧵

Deng particularly liked stories about deep friendship and romance and found himself drawn to a genre known as yuri, which focuses on those kinds of relationships between women — stories that “feel nice and warm and beautiful,” as he put it. I recall that after Alex Pretti got murdered a woman at the vigil came up and gave me a sambusa and then comforted me when I sat down on the curb and cried. Food creates a connection between neighbors that's hard to explain. Also, I would take a bullet for the Sambusa Lady.
