No wonder other 'leaders' want to get rid of Pedro Sánchez. He speaks the truth: “Climate change kills: ... people ..., our ecosystem, our biodiversity, and it also destroys the things we as a society hold dear – our houses, our businesses, our livestock.” www.theguardian.com/environment/...

War Doctor is the memoir of a surgeon who dedicated his life to humanitarian medicine. The Crisis Caravan is a critical look at the Aid Industry and its biggest mistakes. Notes from Death’s Door is another memoir from a doctor working with MSF, on one of their most challenging missions.

Update: due to a dramatic upheaval in my life, I have decided to rebrand. I’ve retired my penname & will now be using my government name. I’m not entirely sure if I will be publishing under this name just yet, but I do feel like it is time for a change to compliment my new writing goals & projects.

Guillermo del Toro on 'Frankenstein': 'AI can go f**k itself!'
"Art is not only necessary, it is urgent. And AI can go f*ck itself!” Guillermo del Toro is a guest of honour at this year’s Lumière Film Festival. He presents his adaptation of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", which audiences got to see on the big screen before it streams on Netflix next month.

OK, ok, I need to stop being coy and self-effacing. I am DELIGHTED that my work in making lesbian history accessible for authors of historical fiction is being recognized in books that used my work. My ultimate goal is to never again hear an author of a sapphic historical say "There's no sources."

Snippety Snippet From my short story — A Cabinet of Curiosities
Unlike the sparkling limelights of the showman, the world of a private collector is full of secrets. Specimens lay scattered in the deep crevices of the earth, to be picked up and gathered in cages and shelves. The provenance of such objects is never without doubt.
Much akin to his peers, the late Lord Frederick Blackwell was a naturalist, an anatomist, and a thief. Moodboard for the story

Haven’t posted a snippet in a while From my short—a cabinet of curiosities
Moodboard for the short storyHer marriage had been born out of love—of the misshapen kind—but ended in tragedy. For her late husband, may god have mercy on him, saw her as a fleeting curiosity of his own. An exotic little bird from the Orient, a passing passion. By the epilogue of their partnership, her wedding band had begun to feel more like a cage.

Happy International Working Women's Day! Now more than ever, it's important to remember that the feminist movement was founded by working-class migrant women from the Global South, who experience the worst of patriarchal white supremacy. 💜

Marie-Auriéle, my Martiniquaise beauty, I will always love you <3
Artistic photo of gilded flowersShe’d watched him crumble every time he saw her, a combination of horror and sorrow in those hardened hazel eyes. So she’d turned to her flowers. She’d crafted a perfume for herself—of bleeding hearts, merry magnolias, and soothing lavender—then slowly eased him back into her arms.
And it worked. But when he held her, kissed her, had her, all she’d ever hear was a soft and shattered I’m sorry. A repentant whisper trailing naked skin, so achingly private, she could never bear replying.

You still have to world build when writing historical fiction! The history you’re working with may lay out the rules but it’s your job to bring that period to life, according to the story you’re trying to tell. The mood, the atmosphere, & the characters’ voices all need to compliment the story.

It's the fact your characters act like they live in that world that makes it real, not the worldbuilding.

I know I joke about the Freakshows being a quirky hyper fixation of mine but it is not just a pet interest—it’s the social & cultural history of my disability, its legacy shaped my own interaction with Able-bodied people and the world. Circuswip is #Ownvoices for that reason.
