There are a number of benefits from having installed solar panels on my roof, but one thing that makes me smile is on those very hot summer days when I used to get "please cut back on electrical usage" notifications, instead I get "you will be credited for your storage battery supporting the grid."

This is the first book I've ever blurbed! (I've been asked before but wasn't able to fit it in.) You should read it.

Wow, that's the first time I've gotten a "we want to promote your (already published) book" phone call rather than email. The caller was clearly an amateur and easily thrown off script. I also was very careful never to say "yes" or "ok" at any point, in case it was one of *those* scams. Weird.

Sometimes you wake up in the morning with an urge to go touch redwood. And listen to the ravens singing.

A grove of very tall trees. There are ravens but you can’t see them.

I’m having one of those urges to go do something away from my usual routine today. Go walk a trail, find a beach, take a scenic drive (no, wait, gas prices!). It’s 50:50 whether I will actually do this because it requires decision-making and planning at an early hour.

The part I hate about putting together the new book listings for the Lesbian Historic Motif Podcast is the research to evaluate how likely it is that a book was written by AI. I have a list of a hundred or so "probable AI authors, based on publication patterns". (And this is just historicals.)

All knowledge is contained in Bluesky: Is there some objective reason why I can no longer find kanpyo (gourd strips) either in dried form or prepared form in the specialty groceries that used to carry them? (Yes, I can find places to order online. This is a philosophical question.)

Just sent off the completed research essay I offered for the Romancing the Vote auction. What a lovely excuse to complete significant chunks of my future book on "how to write sapphic characters in historical novels."

Dear audiobook narrator, If the historical romance you are narrating includes multiple (multiple!) references to the Ladies of Llangollen, it might behoove you to get coaching on how to pronounce Llangollen. Even if the characters are mispronouncing it, the mispronunciation should be believable.

This is a cat who thought my shortbread cookies were actually her shortbread cookies. (I had to rescue one that she tried to carry off.)

A gray cat is sniffing the floor below a side table holding a tea tray. There is a small plate of Lorna Doone cookies right next to the arm of the recliner chair nearby. Just within reach of a curious cat who pretended to be only interested in scritches.

My physical therapist has declared me graduated. I can send back the medieval torture devices and reclaim 4 hours of my day. This is not to say that my wrist is 100% back, but it’s as good as PT can make it. The rest is going to be just regular use.

OK, I know I'm not supposed to spy on people talking about my books on social media, but how else am I going to stumble across someone saying of me, "She's the KJ Charles of indie sapphic historicals and I like her books a lot." [Although, note, if you read KJ for the sex, the comp doesn't work.]

I've been trying to think of ways to do more promotion of the Lesbian Historic Motif Project that leverage the existing content without being repetitive and dull. What about brief bookstagram videos (for the publications that are actual books) with a very high level thumbs up/down synopsis?

Heather Rose Jones @heatherrosejones.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

Ok, Heather, just remember that a podcast essay doesn't need to be a comprehensive survey of the topic. A few salient examples on which to hang the discussion are perfectly adequate. (glances at the list of 24 books identified as likely sources for examples)

Can anyone explain to me why "Bisexual Nonfiction" and "Transgender Nonfiction" are not subsets of "LGBTQ+ Nonfiction"? Do the "B" and "T" stand for something entirely different in "LGBTQ+ Nonfiction"?

One minor grumble about the book I just finished has inspired this month's Lesbian Historic Motif Podcast essay: "Is Your Sapphic Protagonist Worried About the Wrong Things?" I will try to entertain rather than rant. Need to dig up a few more anonymized examples of what I'm reacting to.
