For anyone that uses Neocities, sharing this from the Fediverse. It looks like if you've got adult content on there, potentially discuss said content, or even just us it for your art gallery... You might want to download your full website and be ready to move just in case... Fuck censorship!

I want to protect NSFW artists (emphasis on "art"), but if it becomes legally dangerous to do that we won't be able to host that content anymore. I wish I had a better answer for you, I'm as bamboozled by how crazy everything is getting as everybody else is. If the US starts saying we need to check people's drivers licenses to look at an illustration of a furry or whatever we'll have to make changes to deal with that.

We've not always been okay with hosting NSFW content. We don't (have never) envisioned Neocities as a porn hosting platform, and regularly take down sites trying to do this.

I'm working on a new terms of service that will clarify more of this in the near future. In a lot of ways it actually increases what is allowed to be put on a neocities site and increases clarity, but I'll probably get screamed at for it either way. Not looking forward to it.

Miyakawa on her approach to Sidon’s design, 2017. Source: Creating a Champion #Zelda #BreathoftheWildQuote #MiyakawaQuote www.notion.so/13c41fe961fd...

PEOPLE:
- Yuko Miyakawa. Breath of the Wild Character Designer.

QUOTE:
"Miyakawa: I was asked to make Sidon a passionate, dignified, and powerful character with a stronger physique than other Zora. I decided to base him on a hammerhead shark, and, as a result of his design, they ended up giving him a fan club in the game, which was a surprise. His outfit is princely, with elements of military wear, and I imagine that the whistle on his chest would be used when he takes command.

Sidon was gray right up until the end of development, but, in the end, we made him red to make him stand out more onscreen and to make him resemble his older sister Mipha."

Just recently found, and am currently 2400dpi scanning, an apparently lost one-shot Ocarina of Time #zelda manga from Monthly Famitsu. It was drawn by Koide Taku in the Feburary 1999 issue. I like how Ganondorf looks like a shore bird here.

as an addendum, i don't think it's true that the populace lacks culture, either, or that it's an issue of artists vs non-artists-- i think if EVERYONE could afford a reasonable living, then more people would have time to go to museums/shows/etc and engage with culture in a more challenging way

if you want artists to make weirder art, you have to create stable living conditions that allow them to. homogeneity isn't a matter of artists lacking culture-- there are many soulful artists out there-- it's a matter of unregulated corporate dominance combined with artists who cant afford to create

Currently reading Cyrano de Bergerac's "States and Empires of the Moon." In it he writes about all the stars as other suns, each with its own planets, scattered through an infinite universe. And this was in 1650, just 4 decades after the invention of the telescope. 🧪🔭
