My redesign of The Expanse's Rocinante - 1% more realistic: bigger for more water (re-mass, RCS) and chemical rockets for landing. Shouldn't turn your landing pad into cancercrete! Also lasers? And radiators? Someone please make a co-op Expanse ship-to-ship combat game. I beg u.

The red corals of Mora-P have long since puzzled exobiologists
and anthropologists. They are, as far as we can tell, the only
species present across the entire planet. They are certainly not
natural, but nobody really knows who put them there or why.

Deep history of the local system provides some clues:
Geological surveys tell us that Mora-P was terraformed
between 110000 and 121000 CE (Luttrell et al., 149001), and
radioisotopes have been found dating back to around and a bit
beyond this time. People used to live here.

The red corals are full of cerebral tissue.
Why? What does an autotroph need such an expansive brain
for? In our survey we managed to analyse a section of coral
and map out its connectome. After further qualia modelling
(see technical appendix) we have arrived at a surprising
conclusion: The corals are in a constant state of bliss. The
whole planet is blanketed in sessile creatures experiencing
nothing but pure pleasure for thousands and thousands of
years. It's not the kind of pleasure you could get bored of
either, their brains are wired such that they are psychologically
incapable of experiencing negative emotions.

After further analysis of a segment of coral-brain, another far
more harrowing discovery was made: The corals are likely to
be a very, very heavily modified clade of humans.

In this text, I present the theory that the inhabitants of Mora-P
(tentatively called the "Coral-builder culture") are in fact still
alive and present in the forms of the sprawling coral lifeforms
blanketing the planet. This text covers geological data,
historical data mentioning inhabitants of Mora-P, and the
existential implications of their personhood and psychology.

I haven't been on hiatus; I've just been working on this. Fraser Cain approached me and said people like these size comparison pictures and that I should make one. I agreed and set out on my quest. I ventured into the PDS, tortured the Ferret¹, consulted Emily Lakdawalla's wonderfully helpful blog posts, got confused, got unconfused, and eventually ended up with the above result.

At original size, 1 pixel equals 10 meters, which is enough to comfortably fit the largest animal that ever lived in three pixels. That's resolved by astronomical standards. The overlaid grid marks create kilometer sized squares. Colorized text corresponds to object types. Green is for comets, yellow is for asteroids, and pink is for moons. White text is a grab bag of stuff.

The Burj Khalifa is the tallest² man-made structure in the world at this time at just under 830 m.

An Oasis Class Cruise Ship is currently the largest passenger ship in the world at 362 m in length. There are longer ships but they carry oil and cargo, not people. Which would you rather ride?

The Arecibo Observatory, made famous for being featured in the movie Contact, is the world's largest single-aperture telescope at 300 m in diameter. It is sometimes used to make radar observations of Earth-passing asteroids to determine their characteristics. Apropos, no?
