Amazing screening tonight at the mostly-full, 999-seat Geffen Theater at the Academy! My first time seeing my favorite director in person, and my first opportunity to see a favorite film on the big screen since I saw it in '99.

An absolutely remarkable documentary. I once showed it as part of an "America: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" screening program along with "Ruggles of Red Gap" (the Good) and Scorsese's "The Big Shave," (the Ugly) in '97, and this film in particular got me lambasted as being "an excessive downer."

Something I've been thinking a lot about recently is how powerful abusers don't really need to convince you of any one lie but rather just flood the zone with bullshit to render it "complex" enough that nobody feels confident enough to intervene on behalf of the victim
