Thanks to horror movies, I truly fear the day someone says to me, "You need to get out of the house" because nothing good happens after that sentence #frightclub

Get outta your mind with a #FrightClub double feature Friday. Beginning with Session 9 (2001) at 10 PM ET. Available on Shudder. Then continue at 11:45 PM ET with Eli Roth's Dream Eater (2025). On Tubi, Prime, Shudder. We don't really dance, but we're in the zone.
Poster for Session 9 (2001), by Brad Anderson. David Caruso, Peter Mullan, Brendan Sexton III, Stephen Gevedon, Josh Lucas. "Fear is a place." All the images are indistinct. There's a room, with an abandoned wheelchair, and an almost transparent figure of a man walking down a few steps, away from the room, in the foreground. In the background, a creepy-looking abandoned asylum (a real place, and that's exactly what it was). This is all in shades of rust. Everything looks very old, like it might not really exist anymore. Poster for Dream Eater (2025). Man, looking wet and dirty, with horizontal lines on the image like he's on an old television, silently screaming. "It won't let you sleep." Alex Lee Williams, Mallory Drumm.

Are there any libraries who have created programming policies that address the use of generative AI in speaker presentations? Are they not allowed at all, or require disclosure? I'm considering my options for my library. 📚

I think it would say a lot about a person to know their answer to both of those experiences, especially if the answers are not the same and which is which. Also if they're like, "I'm not quite ready for all this dystopia, but I think if I get a PSL and put on a playlist I can get in the mood."

A truly heinous man has doxxed the Cornell victim on X and the comments are predictably vile. Based on countless interviews I’ve done with survivors, the trauma they are subjected to for coming forward is oftentimes even worse than the initial trauma they experienced. One of the things that is going to change is that we’re never ever again going to be able to be dominated by public officials who tell us, ‘Trust the experts,’” Mr. Kennedy said during the Tuesday session.

“If somebody tells you, ‘Masks work, trust the experts,’ A.I. may tell you otherwise,” he added. “If somebody tells you, ‘Social distancing works, trust the experts,’ A.I. may correct that. And if somebody tells you that a vaccine will prevent transmission and infection, or you need to take it to protect your grandmother, A.I. may say it actually doesn’t do that.”

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

Actually I'm going to say, while it might upset some writing in the genre (specifically men who write women for insta-vulnerable, as if that isn't mega sexist): More horror protagonists should be men who spend a lot of the story screaming and crying and terrified. Let them be vulnerable characters.

The literacy crisis is not just referring to people's ability to literally read and write. It's also people's inability to read for context. I've been a public educator for over 20 years and I have never, ever seen it this bad.

A cutaway view of a stone tower containing an elaborate water-powered medieval geared machine. Rising out of the machine is a rainbow-tinted, pixelated God with the robes, beard and all.
