Just replied to posters questioning if any parents read PhDs that my dad read mine. Once passed & bound, in 2hr shifts each afternoon with tea and biscuits at the breakfast bar. I moved back home for the 6 weeks between viva and postdoc. And heart melted everything I walked into kitchen and saw him

Since my lower back dissolved in 2014, leaving me dependent on a walking aid at 44, after previously walking FAST everywhere, 12-15,000 steps per day at minimum, I've felt this hard. And being immunocompromised on Tamoxifen during COVID, 100x more. Health is the most under-appreciated thing 😞

Some people fully believe that them being healthy is entirely dependent on their sensible little choices & lives & not also a giant roulette wheel that can land on your number any time. And trust me, i would know. Though when I *was* healthy I still didn't feel that ill/old people were expendable!

I despair. It's of a similar vein to 'measles isn't serious'. Just because most of the population was protected by vaccinations before the end of 2020 doesn't mean slowing transmission before then was pointless!

Thanks for articulating why people sneering at capped bus fairs were annoying me so much. My family thought twice about my choice of 6th form college in the 80s because the best route was 2 buses from 2 private firms who didn't take each others' season tickets. This is substantisl savings to many.
