I'M HOLDING IT IN MY VERY HANDS! First proof copy of TWTMC! Eeek! What a moment for a writer 🥹. My excitement is apparent in the rudimentarily styled pics below; it seems that creativity knows no bounds (I quite like the plants). Thank you @flyonthewallpress.bsky.social ❤️

Met a very young author at Newark Book Festival today. Take a look at Abigail Humphries' gorgeous book, Team Of 7, about superheroes! 🦸⚡️ I particularly love the dedication; it's proof, in my opinion, that kids + books = marvelous things ✨️

The archive is full of unexpected encounters. Whilst we read letters for their contents, in some cases the reverse is just as compelling. This letter sent by geologist Arthur F Bather to model-maker Vernon Edwards, was scribbled on the back of a flyer advertising a demonstration held #OTD in 1911.
A printed flyer advertising a march on the 17 June 1911.

If you liked The Final Year you will love this. Twice the size, twice the feels, all the beauty. I cried at least three times. An antidote to toxic masculinity and a must read for young boys.
The cover of The First Year by Matt Goodfellow and illustrated by Joe Todd Stanton. It shows four 11-year-old schoolchildren at a desk looking out of a window across a playground at the cityscape behind them.

They say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but the pages didn't survive 437 years submerged in seawater! Nine leather book covers were recovered from the Mary Rose, which probably belonged to officers - books were very expensive in 1545! #WorldBookDay

Happy World Book Day!
Title: Possible Early Precursors to World Book Day

1. Boktide, 1000ad A grand tournament of literature, culminating with the king choosing one 800k For 'Ethelred's Book Club' and writing a blurb for the cover.

2. Night of Sacrifice, 800ad By the light of the full moon, offerings of overdue books and tiny sums of money were made at shrines to the savage librarian-god Schussh.

3. Day of Banishment, 600ad The weakest member of the tribe was given writing materials, sent into the wilderness and only allowed to return if they wrote a bestselling book.

Authors, poets, illustrators and storytellers are happy to visit schools at any time of the year, not just on World Book Day (which is often fully booked months in advance). Celebrate reading on WBD and then arrange an author visit a few weeks later to build on it.
