It’s a sunny day today and our friend reappeared! In this video you can see why they’re called bluetongues - and at the end as its tail slides out of view, you can also see why people often mistake them for tiger snakes if they only get a glimpse of them in the undergrowth

Can’t go through a WA spring without checking on the Isotropis cuneifolia flowers 💁‍♂️.This widespread pea is found in a variety of habitats, were it grows as a prostrate shrub. Its name come from its wedge shaped leaves, that also have a characteristic emarginate apex!

A stilt sandpiper searching for food among shallow waves. #Photography #Birds
A stilt sandpiper wading in shallow, rippling blue water while lifting one of its bright yellow legs with water dripping off of it. The bird has patterned grey, white, and brown feathers, a white underbelly, a distinct white eyebrow stripe, and a long, dark bill. A soft reflection on the water surface is visible in front of the bird, and a faint shadow is behind it.

Just a Common Bronzewing resting comfortably on our powerline. #birds
Photo of a pigeon on a thick black powerline (actually a cable of lines including power and fibre). The bird is sitting and hunched down, facing slightly away from the viewer but looking over its shoulder at the viewer. It is mostly shades of brown, but has metallic wing feathers that shine like bronze in the diffuse overcast light, and has orange, purple, white, and blue/grey on its face. The orange forehead indicates that it is male.

All the grackles, yes, there are still a boatload here, suddenly took off at once. That’s usually a clue. I looked around and this gorgeous female Merlin zipped through the yard! Merlin’s sure know how to end a grackle bath party!
A female Merlin flys at us in a blue sky. She is mottled brown and light tan with distinct horizontal bands on her tail which we can just see. Her wings are down and she’s staring right at us!
