Justice for the Black kids who wanted to be emo or goth but couldn't because their parents told them that it was either "white people's shit" or "demonic".

Not gonna lie. I fear for the future. Not just because *gestures at everything* but because of the effects of said *gestures at everything*. It's burning our empathy like cordwood, and our younger generations are growing up in that desert of compassion. That's a death sentence for a societal species

I was in Washington State during the 90s and to say how much I despise how 'phobic this place has once again become would take a lot more space than any social media account can possibly allow. I nursed HIV+ patients. I attended more Black Trans sisters' funerals than I can count. This? AGAIN??

New sumo heads may wonder why the ‘refs’ are so SWAGGED OUT. They’re called Gyōji. They’re bound by & carry on Shinto traditions. They are monitored & ranked like rikishi. Judges can overrule them. The scrutiny they face would kill an NBA official. Clothes get better with rank. I’ll post gyōjis ⬇️

I haven't done any painting or sketching in weeks. I used to panic about this, worrying I'd have lost the ability to even so much as hold a paintbrush in a month's time (it's happened, my joints are sometimes unforgiving). But it's ok; I've learned putting things down doesn't mean they're gone.

Most grateful to the estate of James Baldwin—headed by the nephew to whom he wrote the epistolary “The Fire Next Time”—for allowing the first words of “The Overseer Class” to be these words from Baldwin himself. These words have guided me in almost a decade of thought.

"The poor, of whatever color, do not trust the law and certainly have no reason to, and God knows we didn't.
'If you must call a cop, we said in those days,
'for God's sake, make sure it's a white one.
We did not feel that the cops were protecting us, for we knew too much about the reasons for the kinds of crimes committed in the ghetto; but we feared black cops even more than white cops, because the black cop had to work so much harder-on your head-to prove to himself and his colleagues that he was not like all the other niggers."
JAMES BALDWIN, 1967'

This was the very first thing the partner who trained me taught; the law isn't for plebs to comprehend, and it only works if you enforce it. I've been hearing "But that's illegal, they can't do that!" since I was 7. It hasn't changed anything. People who can afford defence in court get justice.

It's a very niche concern, but the older I get, the more I realise I have chosen the most unseasoned island to retire on, and I wonder how long I'll last in a nursing home if I have to eat shepherd's pie and cabbage till I die. There's gotta be somewhere offering some curry goat, I beg.

Not true. There are many reasons why we got here. People not voting is one of them. Not even the most important one. This pedestrian analysis needs to stop. The number one reason we got here, above all, is racism. Until we contend with that we won’t even understand voter disenfranchisement.
