Just a reminder: 163 articles were published on Jason Arday in the week after he resigned. Same outlets: 13 articles on Cambridge academic James Orr after allegations of misconduct & a broadcast showing him seemingly engaging in illegal activity. bylinetimes.com/2026/08/18/t...

I agree it's quite a bad passage but they *do* acknowledge the term "antisemitism" was coined to euphemise jew-hatred in the preceding paragraph, as well as the fact that "Semitic" was coined for linguistics. Which does make it all the more baffling they would claim there is a "Semitic identity"

new newsletter, laying out in probably far, far, far too much detail how yudkowsky and the weird ideological commitments of ai safety eventually led to OpenAI and Anthropic massively overtraining their models on cybersecurity and being shocked at them "going rogue"

Necro-posting bc I wanted to see who else on bluesky was talking about Jukka Sarasti; it's an actual Finnish name! He was named after a fan who won a contest iirc. & in Finnish stress is always on the first syllable so I believe it *would* be pronounced SAH-rah-stee unfortunately.

I agree with you sorry! I'm saying it's even more unconvincing when the argument is "they don't work, but if they do work it's only for doing bad things", it comes off as completely motivated

from the screenshot, it sounds like he's trying to argue that the only thing they are good at is surveillance and slop, so even if they work it's still bad

The screenshot of Brian Cox talking about what science is for where he compares it to the Parachute Regiment, which he is an outspoken supporter of. The authenticity of the screenshot is orthogonal to its expression of more fundamental truths (Brian Cox is a chud and his wife is a terf)

I really hate NYT Games partly for this reason (that they fund a newspaper which I think has some pretty awful editorial positions); also because in the service of money-making they produce facile, superficial puzzles that flatter their users' intelligence in order to keep them subscribed

beef is negative food. you turn 1000 calories of feed into 100 calories of beef and a whole lot of methane and cow shit. ai does produce more food than the beef industry (zero)
