Another time, on the train with a poet friend, none of the other passengers could have known that behind her faraway look she was doing the invisible labor that would eventually win her the Pulitzer. “Artists are always working, though they may not seem as if they are,” the visionary theater director… read article

Happy to see the Post reporting this - and I appreciate them quoting this guy.
“The language that used to be on the sign and website described the Memorial correctly. Ezekiel’s sculpture did sanitize slavery, and it did mythologize the Confederacy,” West wrote in a text message to The Washington Post. “And so as a historian, I’m deeply disturbed by the removal of that language and by plans to restore the statue — especially because they’re of a piece with the censoring and slanting of history at other federal sites.”

This sculpture was created by artist Marco Cueva. The work is called Balam which is the Mayan word for "jaguar," a powerful symbol of strength, bravery, and the underworld. Carved from Brazilian mottled blue granite. 💙 #BlueSkyMonday #AlphabetChallenge #WeekJForJocular #photography #Stockholm #ECK
The image features a mottled blue granite sculpture named Belem (a Mayan word for Jaguar), depicting a stylized, playful creature performing a handstand against a textured stone wall.
It is part of the sculpture series Gnosis/Kosmogony, which was inaugurated at Rinkebyterrassen in 2017.

The sculpture represents a whimsical, cartoonish creature in an inverted position. Its smiling face rests near the ground, while its body curves upward. The figure appears to be doing a handstand, with short, stubby limbs resting on the cobblestone pavement to support its weight.
At the bottom center of the figure is a wide, rounded head with a highly cheerful expression. It features deeply carved, squinting crescent-shaped eyes and an oversized, open-mouthed grin. The interior of the wide smile is a lighter, rough-textured grey, contrasting with the smooth, polished blue surface surrounding it.
From the head, the thick body arches upward and slightly backward. The form is smooth and rounded. It culminates at the very top with a long, thick tail that curves sharply forward, forming an inverted "U" or hook shape, resembling a stylized question mark or an exclamation of energy.
The sculpture is carved from a vibrant, mottled stone with prominent shades of medium to deep denim blue. The surface is speckled throughout with lighter grey, white, and dark flecks, giving it a natural, mineral-rich texture that catches the light smoothly.
The sculpture sits outdoors on a light grey cobblestone ground where small green weeds and clover patches are growing around its base. Directly behind the sculpture is a vertical retaining wall made of large, rectangular blocks of rough-hewn, grey granite, providing a neutral, textured backdrop that makes the blue sculpture pop.
