Will read fully to appreciate ... I was amused by the assumptions: “that there is only one gender …[and that] all parents perish immediately upon naming their child, which makes the math substantially easier.”

arXiv limits people to 2 submissions a month, to hold back the tide of AI papers. Feels entirely sensible - today I happened to notice one person had submitted 3 papers, all AI-assisted, in September. Totally out of step with academic norms and simply not sustainable blog.arxiv.org/2026/10/01/u...

Nihar Shah did a heroic experiment for TMLR: he spent 20-25 hours over two weeks interviewing authors of seemingly low-quality submissions about their own papers. He confirmed what we all suspected: people submitting these papers have *no idea* what is going on in them.

Now this is wild for so many reasons: - SpringerNature retracts 2x70 year-old articles by Max Planck for "copyright violation". - Dead people can't violate copyright. - Editor was not notified. - "Springer Nature is nevertheless still selling the empty PDF for $39.95".

Yes! I couldn't attend the talk (clash with another session), but read the paper - really nice work! Highlights that LLM on its own is not great, and that a hybrid system can significantly improve performance (I make a similar argument in my EMAS paper "LLM-Symbolic Systems: Why and How"

New paper in Nature. The more a government controls its domestic media, the more it dominates AI training data, the more pro-regime outputs we get from AI. By scraping the open web, LLMs are unwittingly laundering state-coordinated narratives into seemingly objective answers.

Particularly in the context of (appropriate) crackdowns on LLM-generated papers (e.g., on arXiv) and more and more tales of fabricated citations, two reminders: (1) LLMs do not "cite their sources" (2) Using an LLM to generate, complete, or fix LaTeX code can result in fabricated citations

No, it isn’t - not all the citizens of a country have passports. citizenship stripping can be done, but the bar is higher (eg terrorism) and there are constraints: a person should never be left stateless (without any citizenships).
