My understanding atm: OpenAI solves a variant of the problem that the Clay Mathematics Institute still recognizes as valid for claiming the millenium prize. Scientific American: "It solves a variant of the problem that mathematicians say is disconnected from reality and thus less interesting." 🤔😵‍💫😅

Nihar Shah did a heroic experiment for TMLR: he spent 20-25 hours over two weeks interviewing authors of seemingly low-quality submissions about their own papers. He confirmed what we all suspected: people submitting these papers have *no idea* what is going on in them.

Codex and Claude Code have a neat auto approve feature where 1) it doesn't ask for permissions, but 2) you get to feel safe. Well --- do you? The premise is it is asking an agent for permission. But if you don't trust the driver agent, why should you trust the review agent?

One thing I have learned talking to lots of people about AI is that they can be both worried about the implications of AI and very excited about using AI themselves. I think people on this site tend to view many people's attitudes to AI as much less complicated than they are.
