So how many of you opened it this week and found your server and channel lists strangely shorter, scant information as to why, and help articles composed of demands for your government ID?

This is the part many Americans -- including the Bezosites at the Washington Post -- don't understand. Canadians don't see this just as a Trump thing. It's that America elected him twice, and the second time with an even bigger mandate. The problem we're addressing is America, not Trump.

I think that's enough that if, hypothetically, every supporter turned out on election day and everyone else showed up at the usual rates, he'd win another term. I'm having flashbacks to 2016 when we thought he'd be crushed and then were shocked when he actually won, and I worry it will happen again.

Current mood: remembering that his approval ratings being 33% means on average one in three people in the US think he's doing the right thing and things are better now. With the amount of time I spend sitting in traffic staring at Trump stickers, it's not hard to believe 😔

Glad folks are appalled by photos of the "phone booth" cage under an awning, but pls understand: This IG report is likely part of a cover-up. Amnesty Int'l interviewed detainees EIGHT MONTHS AGO who said the cage was half this size (couldn't stand up), had no awning, w feet chained to the bottom.

Hackers Had A Live Feed Of Every ID This Verification Company Scanned. For Over A Year.
From the very beginning of this recent obsession with identifying everyone online (yes, they like to call it "age" verification, but it always ends up as identity verification), we've been pointing out that it was a huge privacy nightmare waiting to happen. Or maybe it wasn't waiting. Maybe it was already happening. This week a...

99% of the impact assessments on sea level rise are wrong: www.nature.com/articles/s41... By using geoid models instead of actual sea-level measurements, they severely *underestimate* the damage done. 31-37% more land and 48-68% more people would fall below a 1 m sea level rise.

I'd argue that, for the metrics, it's vastly MORE important that viewers turn this off. There's more viewers than streamers, so even if every streamer turned this off, if viewers don't, the executives can still claim that "most users don't care" and cram it down our throats even harder. Opt out.

A dark day for human rights.
four frame comic. first frame shows the logo of amnesty international. second frame shows jk rowling, smiling in the dark. third frame shows an empty classroom, with a pride poster almost falling from the wall. fourth frame shows a trans flag flying in the wind. text above all the images reads :
on july 8th, amnesty Inter-
national uk published a report
titled “A Growing Threat: The
Anti-Rights Movement in the UK.”
it listed 117 orgs, including anti-
trans and anti-queer ones
backed by jk rowling.
the backlash was immediate
and brutal : rowling pledged
to cover the fees of anyone
who wished to sue amnesty.
the report was taken down
within 48 hours.
this morning (july 31st), amnesty
fully capitulated and released
an apology to anti-trans orgs,
which, it said, should not have
been "collectively labelled as
anti-rights". rowling
celebrated.
an organisation that
bravely faced fascist regimes
and reported human rights
violations for 65 years has caved
to rowling's power and bigotry.
it's a dark day for human rights.
