Pageantry in the Pantry (for Preston)

My friend bakes
reimagined creamy grandmother cakes

and pans full of home-cooked love
his husband samples with pleasure.

My friend wears longs wigs,
also eyeshadows of purple and pink

even shares secret tips
for having the best penciled eyebrows.

My friend writes poetry
with images like junkyard love child

and

I wish I could kiss him in person
instead of with social media emojis

that just don’t capture
my admiration, my respect,

my joy for who he is -
