Finding myself moved to a new/old city trying to find a new social circle well into my fourties proves harder than expected. But having the chance to go out and see a live play of Pratchetts “Guards, Guards” on a random Thursday certainly felt nicely warm and nostalgic.

Barely more than two weeks before it ends I finally found an opportunity last week to visit the „Building Community“ Exhibition in Berlin, covering the Taş Tepeler sites in Upper Mesopotamia. It was a bittersweet trip down memory lane, meeting old familiar faces. 🏺
Abroad set off concrete stairs is leading up to a cubicluar entrance of the James Simon Galleryin Berlin.
A poster hangs beside if the entrance, showing two stone masks from the Neolithic. A view into the main room of the exhibition, showing stilized t-pillars made of white textile constructions. The 3d reconstruction of a stone frieze showing a bull and a leopard with two men. On the right are two display cases, behind the frieze is a large black and white photo of the original.
Me, a white Woman wearing black clothes, glasses and a red updo standing beside a stilized life sized male figurine made from beige stone and with obsidian eyes.

One of the most iconic photos I took on our current trip to Sri Lanka: a dog apparently contemplating about enigmatic Lions Rock in Sigiriya, a natural formation holding a more than 1500 years old fortress and palace of King Kasyapa, illegitimate son who killed his father to become king himself.
A nice concrete terrace with wooden chairs and tables in front of a tropical lake. In the background a large singular flat top hill. A light brown dog with floppy ears sits on the terrace, back to the viewer.

New study: Europe had MUCH LESS dark dense forests vs today! 🚫🌲🌳🌳🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌲🌳 "For over 20 million years, the landscape of Europe has been a tree-rich mosaic of grasslands, scrubs and more or less open woodlands with an abundance of wildflowers" 👇 👇 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Biological Conservation

Volume 316, April 2026, 111749

Revisiting Europe's temperate forests: Palaeoecological evidence for an herbivory-driven woodland-grassland mosaic biome

"The study shows that current reforestation practices are on the wrong track—both here in Denmark, where subsidies are only granted for planting dense forests, and elsewhere in Europe. This will not only be harmful for biodiversity; it will be in direct contradiction to the type of ecosystems that Europe's species have evolved in over millions of years," says Professor Jens-Christian Svenning from the Center for Ecological Dynamics in a Novel Biosphere (ECONOVO), Department of Biology at Aarhus University, senior author of the study.

We’re having an interruption of current doom events, as we are currently traveling in Sri Lanka on my everlasting attempt to fit bits of (prehistoric) archaeology into vacation schedules. Two days ago, we made a short stop at the Thonigala Rock Inscriptions on our way to Wilpattu National Park.
Rock carvings of symbolsEntrance situation of the Thonigala Inscriptions: a reddish brown rock TukTuk stands on a sandy court under a large banyan tree. Left and right are small houses visible. Location of the inscriptions: a beautiful small valley between grey brown boulders with small trees inbetween, and a large visible at the end of the valley. Position of inscription one, a reddish brown rock formation, with a black fencing before lush green vegetation.

Following yesterday's EAA Special Meeting, I have submitted a complaint to the EAA Appeal and Anti-Harassment Committee. I post it here, with names redacted, for any members who were not present. Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out with messages of solidarity and support 🙏💓🙏
In spite of the Safe Space Policy being clearly stated at the beginning of the meeting, Prof. XXXXX targeted me by name, calling for my resignation from my position as Editor of the society's journal. Furthermore, his misuse of my title, referring to me as "Miss Kamash", felt deliberately demeaning. This intimidating behaviour explicitly contravenes the EAA Safe Space Policy. Although he was muted, for which I was grateful, I experienced a panic attack following his comments and did not feel safe to speak for the remainder of the meeting. This was further compounded by not only Prof. XXXXX being allowed to remain in the online meeting, but also being invited to take the floor again after the break. This gives me strong concerns about the effectiveness of the Safe Space Policy.

On a broader point about the effectiveness of the Safe Space Policy, I also note that members whose position aligned with that of Concerned EAA were repeatedly and persistently accused of anti-Semitism throughout the meeting. This is a serious accusation that should not be levelled without due care and evidentiary support. Its use as a blanket accusation seems to have been designed with the explicit aim of silencing and intimidating members aligned with Concerned EAA, which again contravenes the Safe Space Policy and should have been dealt with more robustly during the meeting.
