I’m tired of pretending this is all normal. We’ve reached a point of no return. There is no more beyond this. This is the end. We can’t pretend to be okay with this. We don’t need words anymore. Words have expired. We need action. Globally. Something has got to change. It has to.

i would imagine hasan knows, rationally, not to talk in situations like this. he did anyway because cops of all stripes are very good at making you feel like in *just this one particular situation* it makes more sense to talk a bit. don't ever give in to that impulse.

Dr Oz says being healthy is a patriotic duty Worse, he says they spend 70% of Medicare & Medicaid funds on chronic illness & aren’t “getting their money’s worth” This is the quiet part said out loud. They don’t want to cure chronic illness, they want us to take the blame. They don’t want to pay.

60% of Americans have a chronic condition. Among people over 65, it's 95%. Saying most of our health care spending goes to chronic conditions is just another way of saying it goes to health care.

"Woke" -- changing norms through social pressure -- is not, contra the reactionary centrists, another form of tyranny. It's the *alternative* to tyranny. It's new norms winning through the marketplace of ideas. The alternative is what we see now: enforcing norms via the threat of state violence.

It's darkly funny how little attention the masked secret police receive. Last year it seemed that the chattering class would never shut up about masked undergraduates. Perhaps they saw the encampments as more of a threat to their interests than the jackboots?

There is this very surreal feeling when you are planning out hopeful events for 5-6 months away while also stockpiling medication, checking your go bag, and making sure you are ready to leave your home at the drop of a hat. Also you are working all day like nothing is going on in the wider world.

I know many are desensitized to this since it has essentially been US policy since October 7 (not to mention before), but this is actually the most scandalous passage in the Fetterman piece. nymag.com/intelligence...
"You can't reform a carton of sour milk," Fetterman told Ben-Ami, accordint to notes from the meeting, referring to the Palestinians. Fetterman said he did not believe in a two-state solution and claimed he had never met an Arab person who would condemn Hamas. "Correction," the notes from the meeting stated. "Only a single Arab he has met with that staff was present for wouldn't outright condemn Hamas."

Fetterman wen on to make statements that shocked people. In opposing a cease-fire, he said, "Let's get back to killing." A person who heard the conversation told me, "He said, 'Kill them all.'" In a statement, Fetterman denied the account, adding, "Any reference to killing was solely about Hamas, and I do support the destruction of that organization, down to its last member."

Gisele. Girl.
After Donald Trump won the election, Fetterman did something no other Democratic senator dared to do: He went to Mar-a-Lago. “I didn’t bend any knee; they reached out and invited me,” Fetterman told me. “And if you’re a senator from a critical state and the president would like to have a conversation, that’s part of our responsibility.” Gisele, however, wasn’t so keen on traveling with him. “It was a whole saga,” said a former staffer. “She wasn’t going to go, and they had fights about it.” To convince her, Fetterman told her to think of this as an opportunity to showcase what a model Dreamer looked like in an effort to get the president-elect to soften his views on illegal immigration. If she didn’t go, Fetterman said, she’d lose the right to complain about whatever he did as president. “He said in a small group with senior staff, ‘I told her to put up or shut up,’” the staffer recalled. “‘If she doesn’t go, I don’t want to hear about it.’”

When you become chronically ill, your life can become very small. Losing your health & independence is hard. People abandon you. Healthcare gives up on you. Many of the things that brought you joy, or helped you earn a living, become inaccessible. Acceptance is hard, but necessary.

So, right now, watching this kind of "philosophy" spitting out of RFK's mouth, I am livid. The past 30+ years of my life are thanks to medical science. I ended up in the emergency room, after months of faith healing, herbs, ketoacidosis & a near death experience in the spring of 1992.

Wrath keeps overtaking me everytime I think about RFK. Why? I'm a type 1 diabetic. I got it when I was 14. Guess what you need if you're a type 1 diabetic? Insulin. Or you die. But my family believed that it could be cured with herbs & faith healing. I had a near death experience when I was 14. 🧵

This is an attempt to gut science education/literacy in America

Same for your meds and any equipment you might need for your medical needs, like CPAP equipment or syringes. (Only one company manufactures syringes in the US)

So, funny thing: growing up in about the blue-collarest area around (1980s Pittsburgh), I heard a lot of stories about how, long before the steel industry collapsed, the mill and factory workers were telling their kids to get an education so they didn't end up working at the mill like their old man.

I saw a post once about how spring cleaning historically was because of family-based canning. If a single speck of dust got into a can, it could spoil the food or kill everyone. There's a reason we don't all live on homesteads!

PBS and NPR were such a core part of not just my upbringing but also my identity. There’s so much good that especially PBS brings in children’s programming all over the U.S. My dad and I knew broadcast media was slowly dying but I don’t think either of us envisioned this type of ending for CPB.
