It's #WorldShorebirdsDay !🎉 I wanted to do a Black Skimmer, one of my favorite birds to watch at the beach. They fly low over the water skimming for small fish. It's like watching them dance above the surface. #SuperSeabirdSunday #Bird #WildlifeArt #Ornithology #NatureArt #SciArt #BirdArt #BskyArt
Digital sketch study of a Black Skimmer parent and its chick. Unusual tern-like bird with oversized bill—lower mandible is much longer than upper mandible. Feeds by flying close to surface of water and dipping its lower mandible into the water "skimming" for small fish. Found coastally, especially beaches and sandbars. Barking "yip" calls might clue you in to a flock in flight.

Just a couple of days before my next @backerkit.com launches and I'm still drawing ideas for stretch goals as suggested by the insect loving community. Let me introduce you to this Dicarnosis erythrocephala, a type of parasitic wasp.... #BugSky #SciArt #Invertebrate #Illustration #Procreate
An original digital illustration by Loadofolbobbins of a Dicarnosis Erthrocephala parasitic wasp against a white background. A small but unusual insect with black mottled body which has speckled white dots and striped black clear transparent wings. It's legs are a rich orange red that fade into a light orange as they go down. What's particularly striking about this wasp is it's very large and thick feelers/antennae (I think, not an entymologist) they are segmented and are reddish orange with white tips. The head of the wasp is a deep maroonish red with large greenish yellow eyes.

Dark blue feet and strange pale blue skin on the top of the head divided by thin, black lines. Male has bottle green chest, red back and yellow on the back of the neck, all or which it can erect into elaborate ornamentation during the display at a court on the ground. Remarkable flattened, curly tail feathers reflect blue. The female is brown above with rufous in the wing and barred below. Unmistakable in range. Male gives a series of loud, downslurred “piuu!” calls, increasing in volume.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay is #BirdNaps Any bird caught snoozing, napping or just looking incredibly sleepy! 😊 💤 Here's a lovely hummingbird I spotted sleeping In Costa Rica 📷 🪶 💚 Alt theme: #BrightAccents birds with vivid, contrasting patches of colour that stand out against the rest of its plumage!
A close-up photograph of a female White-necked Jacobin hummingbird seen in side profile sleeping while perched on a slender, textured twig. The bird is facing to the right as viewed and is nestled among the tangled branches of an out-of-focus shrub. Her tiny, needle-like black beak points slightly upward, and her single visible eye is completely closed, revealing a delicate, dark grey eyelid. The hummingbird’s plumage displays a stunning gradient of shimmering metallic colours. Her head and upper back glisten with deep teal and emerald green feathers that catch the soft light. In contrast, her throat and breast feature an intricate, textured pattern of dark green and white feathers, giving her chest a beautiful "scaled" appearance. Her lower underbelly transitions into soft, fluffy white down feathers that slightly cover her tiny feet grasping the branch. The background is a soft, completely blurred wash of bright yellowish-greens and pale browns. Digital sketch study of a Keel Billed Toucan. Large unmistakable toucan with a huge, rainbow-colored bill. Often seen in pairs, but not usually in groups like aracaris. Flies with a few flaps followed by a swooping glide, sometimes high over the forest canopy, and looks like a ‘flying banana.’ Heard more often than seen: ‘song’ is a far-carrying, frog-like croak, repeated steadily. Despite its large size and bright colors, can be difficult to see in leafy canopy, where it moves deliberately in search of food.
