Fairest way to decide how Manchester City should be punished is to open it to a national citizens panel. All ideas can be considered and we can all vote on the top 16. I’d like to pitch in “no relegation but they have to play every game for 5 years without football boots on”

I'm a few days late to this, but it's worth noting as amid all the years of deeply weird discourse about low-traffic neighbourhoods this is perhaps the most unhinged thing I've ever seen. [Plus: they're not "Sadiq Khan's LTNs". They're done by councils.]
Sadiq Khan’s LTNs made me flee Britain, says millionaire philanthropist

Sir Peter Lampl claims mayor’s traffic policies make London unsuitable for ‘wealth-creating entrepreneurs’ “To do all that, I needed to be able to get about,” he wrote. “I needed to be able to meet people, make deals, go campaigning, chivvy politicians into action. I needed black cabs and roads they could get down. And I needed to be able to get home at the end of the day without spending an hour stuck in a single lane of traffic on Park Lane.Sir Peter said the expansion of bike lanes in London and introduction of traffic calming measures, such as 20mph speed limits and low-traffic neighbourhoods, had created “a capital city in which we literally can’t get around by taxi”.

Thomas Edison in 1910. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves on this net zero business, lads
Someday some fellow will invent a way of concentrating and storing sunshine to use instead of this old, absurd Prometheus scheme of fire.
I'll do the trick myself if someone doesn't get at it....
This scheme of combustion in order to get power makes me sick to think of—it is so wasteful.... We should utilize natural forces and thus get all of our power. Sunshine is a form of energy, and the winds and the tides are manifestations of energy. Do we use them? Oh no; we burn up wood and coal, as renters burn up the front fence for fuel.
We live like squatters, not as if we owned the property. There must surely come a time when heat and power will be stored in unlimited quantities in every community, all gathered by natural forces. Electricity ought to be as cheap as oxygen, for it cannot be destroyed.
Now, I am not sure but that my new storage battery is the thing. 167

I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed. 25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it! Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.

The assessment did not consider the crocodiles but instead looked at "how the course would perform under a range of conditions, weather patterns, water levels and flood risk at both Games time and throughout the period leading into the Games".

She hints at what her plan will entail - nature, nuclear, flood defences, markets and innovation - but all this is already being done. If free markets and innovation (without carbon pricing) worked as an adequate answer on their own to the climate crisis the problem would be solved already.

The most coherent argument is one about tax revenues and local jobs. More drilling gives you those things to an extent. It’s not a reason to sustain a polluting industry (and to be clear I don’t support more drilling!) but at least it’s not the lie that more drilling has any impact on energy prices

I need persuading that “climate impacts” will ever galvanise people / politics to that kind of transformational moment. For 20 years the likes of us have said: if this climate stuff continues, in X few years it will really reshape politics. It, substantively, hasn’t.
