We could have left fossil fuels earlier. But the system was profitable. No reason to change. The risks were far away. Easy to ignore. The alternatives were weak. Easy to dismiss. Now it flipped. Alternatives exist, impacts are real, but the system is harder to unwind. That’s the paradox.
