An ocean quahog (Arctica islandica) nicknamed "Ming" was dredged off Iceland in 2006. By counting its annual shell growth rings (sclerochronology), researchers confirmed it was born ~ 1499 and had lived 507 years before being harvested. The real Ming measured only 8.6 cm across. #science #biology
