A wonderful launch of @thelrm.bsky.social’s book, Feminist Art of Walking 🌙💜 An evening of reflection, solidarity & everyday activism - a reminder that walking is art, resistance, and care all at the same time. Feeling inspired to slow down & ‘amble’ 🌃🚶🏻‍♀️ 📖 pictured below #Crip #Walking #Geography
A book titled “The Feminist Art of Walking” by Morag Rose rests on someone’s denim-clad lap. A round badge pinned to the book reads “Amble.” The book cover features a soft, pastel-toned landscape with reflections of trees and buildings.

📢✏️As well as publishing the final blog of series two (socialsciences.manchester.ac.uk/morgan-centr...) we can now share an exciting update about series THREE, which explores 'How austerity alters disabled people’s lives + futures: intersectional understandings in research, policy, + practice'
Austerity and Altered Life-Courses: Call for blogs

Series Three – How austerity alters disabled people’s lives and futures: intersectional understandings in research, policy, and practice

Do you work at the intersection of disability and austerity? Do you have lived and/or research/policy-based experience of how austerity alters disabled people’s lives? We are curating a blog series which focuses on the ways austerity shapes and changes disabled people’s lives and futures, and we want to hear from you!

If you are interested in contributing to our blog series on the topic of austerity and disability, send us a short summary of your blog (200 words max) to austerityalters@manchester.ac.uk by Friday 30th May, with the subject line as ‘Disability and Austerity Blog’. If this date is not accessible for you, but you would still like to submit a summary, please let us know.

We approach disability inclusively and broadly. Please see post thread for full text details.

It's important everyone over 14 on their doctor's learning disability register has an annual health check. They can help you stay well and find any problems early. If you haven't been offered one you can ask your doctors practice if you can have one.

This is disgusting. Apart form the gross immorality of it, there is the practicality - get big corporations and multimillionaires to pay their taxes - that would create far more revenue than persecuting people on disability benefits.

🚨DR UK's Statement on Passing of Assisted Dying Bill We stand firmly against a law that risks pressuring Disabled people into decisions driven by lack of options rather than genuine choice. This bill could reinforce the narrative that Disabled people’s lives are less valuable.

“At a time when social care is chronically underfunded, accessible housing is scarce, and many Disabled people are unable to afford food, energy, or other essentials, this legislation sends a chilling message: the government prioritises the right to die over the right to live.”
