Appreciate that, Coy. I hate giving up, but I feel I made the right call because I checked that 8pm flight status on my way home and it was canceled. So I'd have been stranded in Albany another day. Next time I plan differently. And don't end up in an emergency clinic with a minor head injury. 😆

I will check Temu immediately for a cost effective option that hopefully charges with one of the 28,000 micro-USB cords I have in the Bullpen.

Don't you remember? We tried that last fall and I went though a set of batteries every week! Damn, those cost money...

Made it back to the Bullpen after the last two disastrous days of attempted travel to find that our intern, Jerry, had tried to throw a house party while we were gone! Now, only his mom showed up, and that's cool because she bakes cookies, but how did he get access to a telephone??!!

You may have noticed that I am not even mentioning the several strains of Games Discourse going on right now. This is because it all makes me very sad, anxious and tired and I wish to have no part in it. I shall be mostly avoiding social media this weekend. Please read Steam Hype. I'm proud of it.

I legit played the heck out of the shareware version back in the day. Yes, it looks rough today, but it's a really good adaption of the source material and a fun boardgame-esque diversion. Watching Kris makes me want to load it up again!

I've met a couple of people who just wanted to use others for their own vain attempts at glory, but by and large, everyone has been awesome. I shut out the fakers and hang out with the real ones. It's worth it.

A tale of two travel woes: Flight is delayed nine hours without a guarantee of taking off. Result: they keep my money and give a voucher to be fucked again at a later date. Amtrak has to change a trains departure time by an hour? No questions when I request a refund. Amtrak, you are mostly cool.

About 2:40 from there. Next time, I'm just gonna try flying out from my home state. Less stress than me trying to get cute with a train and shit.

And now it's 8pm. Yeah. After this run of luck, the universe does not want me to go to Chicago this year. I'm not an easy quitter, but this has me beat.

Yeah, unfortunately not any longer. They bumped it to 8pm and everyone aboard has re-booked. I hate it, but I'm putting a pin in this grenade. This vacation was cursed I think.

Point of Impact Publishing @pointofimpactbooks.bsky.social · 16/10/2026
And we've had an 1:30 delay. But they have not canceled the flight and I do not have any connections. I believe I have cursed all of these poor souls with my bad luck.

Point of Impact Publishing @pointofimpactbooks.bsky.social · 16/10/2026
That was the original plan. Until a little accident delayed me long enough to miss the overnight train to Chicago. There really is nothing good about air travel.

Point of Impact Publishing @pointofimpactbooks.bsky.social · 16/10/2026
That sucks so, so much more than my situation. I don't have to make a single connection, so if this flight is delayed an hour or two, I'm gonna be fine. Everyone else is gonna go goblin mode, but I'll be chill. 🤣

Same. The relationships I've developed with other creatives has been the highlight of this entire journey. Some are just casual, some are deeper than that, but all of them are special.

I submitted Devilry in Godling Wood: A Medieval Horror to Sentinel Creatives in Aug 2025. Now, 14 months later, we’re a week away from the novel’s release. I’m excited & nervous about it. I’d be grateful for any help spreading the word. It means the world to me.

It was not the direction I expected. I think the dead run from one side of the city to the other to desperately try and get to the station in time was the highlight. No wait, the hunting for a hotel at 8:30pm with only 2% battery was the highlight. The bump on the noggin was really nothing.

Slight change of travel plans. Missed my train last night due to a trip and fall. EMTs here in Schenectady are super nice and chill people. Big props to them. Now I get to fly out to Chicago instead. Dementedly, this only changes my arrival time by two hours.
A very weary traveler.

Bus (non-metro) and boat are the only two methods of terrestrial transport I have not tried. And today I can scratch bus off the list. Frankly, I hope in Fredric Brown's era they smelled less of urine.

The 4th chapter of The Bartender: Old Fashioned Onslaught, subtitled The Price of Water, is almost half done! This adventure is shaping up to be a favorite. And the pace of writing has been fantastic. After sinking most of the year into a nonstarter, it feels good to have one that works.
"And so what were you going to do?" Melody demanded. "Shoot them with that goddamn hand cannon you insist on packing? Jessie told me you were trailing the line with it the other night! You talk about them, but what happens when you are the one provoking them? Tell me that!"

Brodie licked her lips. "Could...could someone hand me my shirt?"

"You want to blame me for this?" Ginny's voice rose to an uncomfortable level and she stood up behind Brodie's back, fists clenched beneath her rolled up sleeves. "Why the hell don't you grow a goddamn spine, Mel?"

"Just the bra then?" Brodie tried again. "Even a towel would be fine, I'll return it, promise."

Melody let out a sigh that reminded Brodie of a steam boiler and shook her head. "Virginia May Cameron, you are impossible. You've always been hard-headed, but this is ridiculous! You could have been killed and look what you did to...to..." now she looked at Brodie and her gaze didn't soften. "I'm sorry, what was your name again?"

"Brodie."

"...is that your first name or your last?"

"I'm kind of disinclined to answer while I'm sorta half-nude here."

Lunch today was at the Take Two Cafe in Schenectady, NY, my long stopover before Chicago. A Rueben on grilled marbled rye and a side of pasta shell salad. Nice little cafe. Very cute. Which is maybe not the right term for a place to eat.
