First time watch of Sleepaway camp. Didn't see it for years because they way people talked about it, I thought it was mean-spirited and homophobic. But watching it now, oh this is a very queer movie. Now it makes sense. It invites ridicule, but underneath there's a strange complexity. Awesome.

Still think about when I was at a small comic convention and a seller asked me what kind of books I was looking for and I went, “pre-1970 funny animal comics”. The look of horror on his face.

Reading List 2026. For my 2,000th book, a reread of Kafka Metamorphosis, etc. Is this the greatest, funniest book or am I not well? Weak showings from Murderbot and Bobiverse. Lots of action with Shaun Hutson and Michael Cole. Doing my best to finish the translated works of Natsuo Kirino 👸📖

Bleach from 1992, a UK shoegaze/dreampop group with a bit of grunge. Not exceptional, but passable if you're into that sort of thing. Shotgun, however, will take you by surprise, mostly because dreampop does not often feature rap breakdowns. youtu.be/Kx2_81YPBZ4?...

As a Pulp fan, the artist’s journey of the albums is vital. The desperate teen foolishly given hope by indulgent John Peel, the surprising goth album, the Madchester one. His weird brand of horny feminism evolved. But as soon as he achieves his goal, he goes “being a celebrity is f-d up” and bails.

Sure she axe murdered up her parents, but isn’t calling Lizzie Borden a “monster” a bit extreme?

Man, this John Byrne Fantastic 4 collection is really great, I wonder if he had any extremist views. (Checks Wikipedia). Oh, that’s not good.

Thing about Coyote vs. Acme's budget being 70 mil, is that you're telling me that THIS animation costs 50 mil? Warner Bros were doing something.

The opinion on Resident Evil (2026) I'm falling on, is that this is the "anti" elevated horror. This is a movie that makes a game out of just throwing new scenarios and monsters at the character, until it goes from quiet and snowy to massive chaos. And I kind of love it for that.

010

Jon Von @pnumechomppsky.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

Resident Evil (2026) is a movie designed to feel like playing a third-person survival horror game in almost everything it does. It's making jokes about it, while also doing the thing. Kind of blows my mind.

Shaun Hutson, splatter pioneer. Recently read Assassin, and was reminded of Renegades. It makes me want to ask, “How do you feel about a truly unnecessary level of anatomical gun violence?” Bonkers horror action.

As someone who didn’t really watch Star Trek, is funny how often Renè Auburjonois shows up. Because I know him as the audiobook reader for Preston and Child’s Pendergast book series books 4-18; until he passed away. I’ve listened to the whole series, and his southern gothic sleuth was iconic.

Didn’t know Keegan-Micheal Key was the voice of Buddy until after. Its sounds like an actual late 90s VA. But this is a role that he’s built for. It’s some of his best dramatic work, AND he dead-on sounds like Barney. He really commits to it. Good job.

Jon Von @pnumechomppsky.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

The thing with Buddy is that, I thought this would be good, but not that it was going to emotionally mess me up for days. That it’s actually, like a really incredible film about domestic violence?
