If you are emulating an older game like an NES game, stop and go look up the manual it came with. Not a guide, the manual. It was expected reading material and they are commonly intended as companions to the game that can portray information the original game might not have had the capacity for.

i feel like so much of megamans success is that stage select format. as a kid i could only beat like 1 of the stages per game but i could just visit a different one when i got bored. when i was too bad at games to see most of them that buffet of stages was extremely appealing

I've personally released DEMON DUST on steam and have access to revenue reports for another game I worked on, Vernal Edge. Both of them have performed in entirely different brackets of revenue, but I would not describe either of those brackets as "viral success" or "bad day at a garage sale" 1/2

wonder if fighting game autocombos could benefit from being a bit more complex than 1 button pressed 6 times. i feel like we skipped making comboing easier and went straight to making it trivial with a lot of these systems. let novice players have a little fun instead of mashing light.
